Typhoons
You missed an apostrophe.
A couple of pictures I took at Farnborough.

A few of these ought to be good for CAS:

I saw this at the BAE stand at Farnborough, thought it was interesting.

So the RAF chose the Sniper pod for the Harriers but the Litening for the Typhoon and Tornados?
In many ways similar to the Westland Wyvern
I suppose, but much much faster and without a turboprop. Designed as a fighter rather than a strike aircraft.
I do think though that they could have found somewhere else to put it – it makes a dirty stain on an otherwise pristine airframe.
Ken
I agree … if I was a country looking to purchase a new fighter that stain would make me seriously consider whether I wanted Typhoon or not. 😉
Well yes, that would be a good reason to bolt on a gun turret on to it… would look a lot cooler if the gun turret was in the nose though…;)
Any chance of a “gunship version”, a la C-130 Spectre, that would be just as cool?;)
Oh my yes, that would be awesome. What weapons would you have in it? Would an M777 fit? Or perhaps a GAU-8?
To tell the truth, i wish Dassault had sticked with the EF program, now everything would have been easier for everyone.
I couldn’t agree more … that way, EF would be carrier-capable and would have one less competitor, and more would be getting built.
Me too! 2 days ago I saw two Apache Longbows flying right over the centre of the city. I meant to post it and ask the exact same question, but forgot …
The main EF problem if ordered today, is that we want it with the Caesar radar, something that i don’t know if they can provide us if we order now.
Ineresting … so CAESAR really is going to be a lot better than CAPTOR could ever be.
For instance, the Fleet Ready Escort and amphibious roles could be shared, with Scottish units operating right alongside. Overall, I wouldn’t expect any drastic changes, just a slight alteration in the way things are done!
That’s assuming the SNP agrees with whatever the government in London wants to do with those units, and they don’t agree with much.
I doubt that any independant Scotland would be looking towards any major air or naval component it does’t make any sense.
I would think that the SNP are looking along the lines or the Irish millitary. The first thing they would want is the transfer of the Scottish devision to local command.
How would that work, exactly? Haven’t the soldiers sworn an oath to the Queen? What would England have to gain by giving up the Scottish regiment, or any military resources, for that matter?
I’m Scottish but you can be sure that if I was in the armed forces I would not be happy about being handed over to some other country.
We can take a look at some of the proposed prop-driven designs to get an idea of where things were headed.

At the same time Rolls-Royce was trying to develop a 2-stroke V12 engine called the Crecy that produced a theoretical maximum of 5000hp. Apparently its exhaust thrust made a significant contribution at high speed and altitude, making it a little jet-like.

I guess the next step after this would be to harness that exhaust thrust to drive a compressor fan, like in the compound engine.
Will Typhoon have a TFR mode?
