I am very Pro-USN/USMC but the AH-1Z and UH-1Y are really a waste. Why re-invent the wheel when the Apache and Blackhawk (Seahawk) are readily available??? Further, think of the saving alone in parts, infrastructure, and logistics! Also, let’s not forget both are superior to the former two in performance…………..just the usual Military Welfare! 🙁

Exactly! They shouldn’t have bothered with the Apache when they could have just made the AH-1Z all along …

WOW those are some IR suppressors on the the Zebra Cobra! I think this helicopter is going to be one hell of an asset, I already think they are more relevant then the apache, now the line blurs even more with the Zebra.

    Why do you think that?

Flankers and Fulcrums are perfect designs.

    Nice pics!

I suppose Tornado Gr4 will fill their roles until Typhoon gets a decent A-G capability? So all those Jaguar upgrades were a pointless waste of money.

Electronics Support Measures: the passive detection of enemy electromagnetic (EM) emissions.

Electronic Counter-Measures covers all methods used to deny targeting information to an enemy. Offensive ECM is usually jamming to prevent the accurate detection and identification of incoming strikes until the jamming unit is destroyed. Chaff is also used to confuse AAW operations by creating radar decoys. Defensive ECM also uses chaff as well as soids, blip enhancement and jamming of missile terminal homers.

Thanks! So ESM is a king of enhanced and glorified RWR?

What’s the difference between ESM and ECM?

Would be but I get an RN page with a 404 error notification on it. Have they pulled it?

You can get a bunch of vids by clicking on the “Multimedia Centre” link on the left.

I love how half of the videos still feature the Sea Harrier.

And by “love” I mean “hate, and am extremely bitter about”.

The F-35 was designed WITH canards! During the six hundred hours of wind tunnel testing of the aircraft at NASA Ames Research Center, was the decision made to eliminate them.

Do you think that if the Typhoon ever got thrust vectoring its canards could be removed?

Anyone who calls Garry on his BS is his enemy. Not sure why you’d want to be his cheerleader.

Don’t know what’s rattled your cage. I said you were BETTER than the Nazis, didn’t I? What more do you want? 😉

I think I’ll just leave you two alone together.

A precise explanation can only be given by experts, but an american engineer once commented that the best place for canards (probably during a discussion on the optimum placement of canards) was on one’s enemy’s aircraft. Paul (overscan) , probably can quote the incident with complete details.

He should have told the designers of the Gripen, Rafale and Typhoon! Man, those guys must be IDIOTS!

You can learn from anyone, from family to your deepest darkest enemy. What you learn and how it applies to you reflects more of your character than who you learnt your lessons from. The allies learned about armoured warfare from the Germans in WWII. There is a lot of what they learnt about the germans that they rejected.

Even I wouldn’t compare Sferrin to the Nazis!

    This thread has been Godwinned.

You keep blaming the student and I’ll just keep pointing to the teacher…

LOL, you should choose more wisely who you learn from …

Thanks for the info! So no modifications were made to the radar during the Gr4 upgrades?

Does anyone know when CAESAR development is likely to be completed?
