And here I thought it was a petition to see american spending decrease threefold.
US defence spending is a long way below 9% of GDP, that sort of level of spending could seriously hold a country back.
Don’t shoot the message
Swerve, Phil Foster, you seem to be saying that 3%, the level in 1995, was not enough and won’t be enough from the present GDP. The ‘top brass’ at the UKNDA http://www.uknda.org/ that asked for 3% do have some idea of what is needed to run the armed forces and keep it equipped under present circumstances.
Please support my petition. If you have a minor quibble with the wording, by all means, submit another to number ten. The more the better. I’ll probably sign it.
Fold up cabins and bunks?
I’m reminded of the old square rigged wooden ships that knocked down all the cabin walls to clear for battle.
The AW149 seems very likely to replace the Puma when the time comes. An AW149 powered by two RTM322 (same engine as Merlin’s three and the Apache’s two) would make a lot of sense for the support/logistics.
New Generation Hawk
I’d go for an EJ200 as the new engine and look for multi-role performance from the hawk. Have them as trainers, but also as the low end of a high low mix. CAS and EW versions might work. Could we make them carrier capable?
Our armed forces, my way
I estimate that MoD spending might increase to as much as 3.5% of GDP for this. Affordable and justifiable in my view.
