Thanks Moggy. However, I will put the CAA licence office to task on Monday just to rant at them somewhat. The funny thing is that if I had not cut my licence up, how would the CAA then inform me of this essential test I have to take? Agree, bollox!

Update: Took all the tools in creation to the airfield today. Found that the headset jack plug sockets are fitted into an aluminium box section, which is itself pop rivetted to the airframe. Of course the only two tools I didn’t take with me were the electric drill and the pop rivetter – sod’s law!
Anyway, we all seem to agree that the crackling is a loose or dry solder joint or one that is shorting to where it shouldn’t.
Today we flew circuits for 15 mins and all was quiet, landed and then flew again. Approximately 15 mins later whilst flying the dreaded crackling occurred with “TX” flickering in time on the radio display. This suggests that the problem could be heat induced (taking time to get to the temperature that the fault likes). Again, during flight we turned the radio off, strobe off and transponder off – no change. Removing either P1 or P2 heatset jack plugs whilst in flight seem to cure the problem but only for a short time and then starts again.
After landing we realized we had not turned off the avionics isolator switch in flight so did a few circuits for the test. The first 10 mins were quiet then on the final down-wing leg the crackling started again. We then turned the radio off and also the avionics isolator switch but could still hear the crackling in our headsets.
We conclude so far (cautiously) that with the avionics all off and only the master switch on (engine running or not), the fault seems to be within the intercomm and/or the jack plug sockets as nothing else is switched on.
Next trip to the airfield is planned for wednesday 16 July. Will keep you posted.

Folks, Many thanks for the suggestions; many we probably would not have thought of. I am listing all in a sequential order on a word document and will be carrying out the checks on sunday (tomorrow). Also, now as an afterthought Dragonfly, when trying to seat the jack plugs for the P1, the crackling did increase, so we will be taking a very close look at them; this ties in with Tony’s suggestions aswell
Alan, not something we have tried yet but will include it in our checks tomorrow.
    Again, many thanks

I’ve already lost faith in politicians, now I put the supermarket meat producers and retailers in the same stable (no pun intended). As some have said already here, it’s time to change the way we shop and I for one will be doing so. No doubt a little more expensive but I want what I buy to be exactly what I expect it to be.
I read in a book titled “Complete Zebu” that, say beef, can be advertised as british as long as it’s processed in the UK; its actaul source can be anywhere in the world and need not be cattle as we British see it but could be zebu from South America.
No doubt as time goes on we will find more of this skulduggery to maximise profit margins.

Good old “politically Correct” BBC; only report what they think is vogue or within their own sphere of thinking.
With the general agreement (now scientifically proven) on the fact that the globe has had no temperature increase for the past 20 years, puts the infamous “hockey stick” graph showing past and projected temperature changes right out of the window. This begs the question: what happens now to Al Gore’s nobel prize?

Additionally folks, those huge bills for the NHS and the Welfare Budget would be significantly less if immigration was not so rife; another gift from the EU that thus far is out of our control. Adding to that of course are the plethora of diseases that were once eradicated, or at least minimal, are now returning with gusto, no doubt brought in by such uncontrolled immigration.
Any wonder that the system is creaking at the joints with free housing, health care, subsidies, et al for these “visitors”.
I say the EU is a monster out to govern the whole of Europe and perpetuate the regulations and laws that engulf us on a continual basis to justify its existance.
    I say OUT!

Steven_wh said it all for me; I couldn’t agree more. Intrusive music in documentaries which stifle the narration, clever (stupid) camera work – in, out, sideways, etc. And, as Steven infers, programmes that do not give credit to the brains in our heads.
Additionally of course is the “politically correct” stance of the BBC which adheres to what they think we should see/hear, not what people are actually thinking and what is actually being experienced.
As for the adverts, they become more and more intrusive as you get (attempt) through a good film and as the film progresses, the adverts become more frequent. My idea would be to ban adverts that interrupt any programme and only have them “between” programmes but with an increase in the cost to the advertiser to cater for the revenue required for that programme. This will of course increase an advert cost ten-fold and maybe more but you can bet they will still be lining up to buy the air time.

On the news a day or two ago there was a problem with a platform in the North Sea. If I remember correctly it had something to do with damaged pipework – I could be wrong on the actual fault. Some evacuation did take place.

Good old Nigel! He stuck it to them. I heard the same old stock answers and rhetoric from the rest of the panel and, reading between the lines, if we ever do get a referendum from David cameron, it will be worded so that whatever the public decide it will show we want to stay in the EU; we will not get the choice for IN or OUT.
Some may not realize this but the EU gave (and I mean gave) Romania over 1 Billion euros to bring their country up to scratch so that they could be elligible to join the EU. Talk about buying membership!
