From jumpseater on PpRune,
I like it!!!
There was a young man in his plane..
That landed at Bristol in rain..
He thought he might skid!
My god how he did!
And now the poor boys in Dunblane!
😀
Great film of the 707. Still a time when flying was an adventure! I like the image of the woman standing and waving/posing for the gallery. Wonder if it was someone famous, as there did seem an awful lot of people watching the take off? Thanks for those. 🙂
Apologies if this has been mentioned/answered already in this thread, but I do not have the willpower to search 24 pages of posts!!
I remember seeing a prog (on Discovery?) a few years ago of the Breitling fighters in Holland, doing some breathtaking low passes along a canal. The one image that particularly sticks in my maind was the Spit flying so low, that it was below the level of the dykes either side of the canal. Imagine going for a walk and looking at the upper surfaces of a spit doing 200mph!!! Anyone know what programme it was and if any footage is available (dvd/online etc)?
What’s the ID of the airbase to the south west of Long Marston? A nearby road is ‘GLOSTER’ Ades Road. Any significance?
As with all this govts thinking, they will have just one centralised NATO Air Base, where we lease aircraft from the US (because of our special relationship). The RN will consist of 2 converted cross channel ferries and a narrowboat called Sandpiper and will be based at a conveniently placed shore base in Tamworth (The canal will have to be widened to accomodate the ferries, £50m over budget and 3 years late of course). The Invasion/Terrorism hotline will be outsourced to Bangalore, where after reporting grenade wielding maniacs heading towards the NATO Central airbase at Booker Airfield, you will be offered a great new deal on a 3G phone.
(have picked up bexWH773 toys and thrown them myself, next please)
Lovely shots. 2nd Gannet shot is very nice. 😎
Not RAF graffiti, but gouged graffiti on the B24 in the AAM at Duxford was worrying.
Nice to be able to see her upper surfaces. Shows that graceful wing off niceley. Would be nice if they could spruce up/restore the interior so you can view the cockpit, as they did with the Trident.
Excellent. Does that mean the Varsity is in aswell?
What niggles me… no sorry……. ***** me off, is that I am trying to arrrange a fundraising project for a Lanc that went down near us, just over a week after VE day. The remains were bulldozed into the crater along with the wreckage. Its a grave basically. 100 yds away is a senior school which is the most undersubscribed school in Wolverhampton. 12 months ago, 50 pupils attacked a truck driver who had to brake sharp and sound his horn at a group of kids who ran across the road in front of him. 100 yds the other way is a pub where the police are called almost nightly and cars are damaged almost nightly. What chance for a memorial that will take me years to fund with a ‘scrap metal’ price of a couple of hundred quid? 😡
Kev35: daft sod! Kids are happy as they were homing rabbits. Taken hours of training to teach them to use parachutes. Survival kit includes freeze dried julienne of carrot and a map made out of lettuce. 😉
Makes our visit to DUX tomorrow all the more poignant.
Thanks all. Pen Pusher, thanks for the lego info, his gran has bought him a kit for Xmas after he saw one on ‘the gadget show’!
Lee; Thats what I thought, hence my questiony type marks on the statement! All the peeps I speak to at Cosford are polite and always willing to help, but if they are giving out spurious info to the public and I can only get the “real” info from t’internet, then there is surely a communication problem that needs addressing.
Badger617; After seeing the garden parasol and the rabbit’s hutch/run tarpaulin head towards Walsall at a height that may affect inbound to BHX, I can only hope you are right!
Ivan – why don’t you wait and see what happens to her?
I ‘m intrigued now!! I’ll probably be up there again in a fortnight. Off to Duxford with the lad on Saturday. Hope his little legs will cope with the walking!!
