    Hmmmm,
Maybe……. If it was moored alongside, would the RAF chappy have needed a mae west, or would it be moored offshore?? Also, why so many GI’s. Was it a mobile HQ/Troop Ship?
Also, the Navy guys seem to be wearing winter kit… then again it does get darned cold in some “hot” parts of the world. My nephew is in Afghan at the moment and he can testify to that!!

Barnstormer… cheers mate. that tells us it must have been my friends great uncle. Must have been there when the photo was taken. Like you say, must have had a special meaning to him.

Wish I wasn’t so cack handed and live so far from Taunton. What a great project.
    Good luck.

The S5/6 scale replica was damaged I believe in a flyiing incident at Thorpe Park and then rebuilt many years later. It crashed in Carrick Roads near Falmouth killing the owner Bill Hosie. The year escapes me for the moment but it was at least ten years ago.
Hall Leisuresports had a great show with their replicas, correct me but they also had Tigers and perhaps a Stampe. Wasn’t the DH2 built for them too?

There is a memorial bench at St Just in Roseland church, (probably one of the most picturesque churches anywhere) where the plane left from on Sat 23rd May 1987. This photo was taken a long time ago. I stumbled across it whilst looking through some old photos of a friend from Looe who recently passed away.

    At Last!!

Thankyou for that Bruce. Sad to hear about Geoff Copeman.
As it happens, I managed to get in touch with Barry Meade, the son of Victor Meade, who was the Air Bomber on RF124. he was in my area last week and we met up to swap pictures and documentation. Barry never met his father. His Father and Mother married on the 19th May 1944. The aircraft crashed on May 17th 1945. They were only together for 3 weeks of that year. His Moms father refused to let them marry until Victor had completed his 30 missions, which he did. He then signed up to the RAFVR.
He has supplied me with a signed photo of the crew of RF124, minus Ronnie O’Donnell for some reason (maybe he took the photo??). Thats no problem as I already have photos of Ronnie and also John Sills.
I hope you find the following pieces interesting. Take a look particularly at the post card from John Sills. Look at the dates of the writing and of the post mark. Makes the last couple of lines all the more poignant. 🙁
Although I now have all the crews pictures, I still want to continue to trace relatives, to pass on mementoes from the 60th anniversary memorial service.
Incidentally, Barry Meade currently flies a rather nice 1947 Cessna 120!!

    Hand in pocket time….. again

    From the BBC site.
The last flying Vulcan Bomber could be making one of its final appearances at Leuchars Airshow at the weekend unless £1.6m can be raised, restorers warn.

Dr Robert Pleming, Vulcan To The Sky Trust chief executive, said after five years and a £7.5m restoration project the cash was needed to run it annually.

Also reiterated on the TVOC site aswell.

Anyone know who the ‘major sponsor’ was that withdrew?
