Yeah I wish that Air Uk were still around. The Shorts 360’s and the Fokker 50’s used to be good but even the Fokker 100’s, which were more common, were nice to see. Then it changed over to KLM Uk and they gradually disappeared. Then when it changed to Buzz they were never to be seen, can you imagine a F100 in the Buzz scheme!

No I think Air Luxor have two Tristars, CS-TMP and CS-TMR, you must have seen CS-TMR in Lisbon.
Wow that sounds brilliant interflug, all those old plaes! The airport has certainly changed rapidly. When I first started to go up there only about 6 years ago, I can remember seeing Air Uk Shorts 360’s and F100’s, Ryanair 1-11’s, European 1-11’s, MK Airlines DC-8’s and even a few private 707’s. Eventhough it is more interesting now that the airport is a lot more busy and more destinations are being served (mainly by Ryanair), the ‘quietness’ did some times have an advantage because if you were lucky enough you would get to see aircraft doing touch and go’s and if you were really lucky you could even see BA 747′ doing them. Another aircraft I can remeber screaming over my head was the Ilyushin-76, but I think these are banned from the UK now.
No I am hoping to get a digital camera sometime hopefully not too far in the future so that I can take photos. It is a shame as I have had quite good luck recently at Stansted when it comes to spotting, including lots of private jets, a couple of An-124’s and even the An-22 (which appeared in airliner world quite recently). It would also be good to get a nice camera as I have made quite a lot of trips to airports such as Gatwick and Heathrow in the past couple of months, with lots of photo oppurtunities there.
Hopefully I will be able to share some photos on here soon!
Yes I suppose I agree woundsinger, a fair point made. I have now heard that they are hoping to ‘patch the plane up’, probably with gaffa-tape or something and then get a certificate from the CAA to fly it back home. However, they need special clearance to fly at 15,000ft where the air pressure is not too much different before the aircraft is properly repaired. I do not think they are too concerned about having to repair it, just a bit of patchwork in the meantime.
Sorry Comet I think I should have worded it better. What I meant to say is that is there a viewing terrace or spectators area, specifically for watching the planes?
Thanks
Is there anywhere to watch the planes from either in the terminal or near the terminal, or do you HAVE to go by car or taxi?
Thanks evryone. I got there in the end (apart from N8540), it was a Citation and that is all I know. I quickly got it just as I arrived at Stansted today. m now just about to post my report on the planes I saw at Stansted today so look out for it.
Does any one know of a website that has information and operators/type of aircraft on all the worlds airliner registrations. I know that there are certain sites that list for example G- or F-, but is there just one that lists them all?
Great photos, have you ever tried putting any of them on airliners.net
I have a few photos as I have been up the control tower, I have one of the cargo ramp which has a line up of a Titan ATR 42, a TNT 146 and a BA world cargo 747. I just tried putting it on but it wont except it. I will try messing around with it to make it a smaller file size then I will try again.
I also noticed that from Myrtle avenue if you look toward the maintenance areas, between the hangars you can see the aircraft taxiing toward 27R. If the aircraft have the last two letters of the registration on the tail, you can usually work them out and if they are at the right angle you can sometimes see the whole registration on the side of the aircraft. This is how I got the registration of the BWIA A340, which A330 Crazy seemed to be envious about!
PS LN Strike Eagle as you live locally to Stansted do you go there often? If so which spots do you think are best? I tend to either go to the fire training center if they are on 23 or just outside the long-stay car parks if they are on 05.
I live in Bishop’s Stortford, the nearest town to Stansted. I have been spotting there since I was about 8 and i’ve been collecting registrations since about the age of 10 or 11. I am glad that there is an airport locally to go to but I hate the idea of it being dominated by Ryanair, which it practically is at the moment. It can be interesting sometimes but nothing beats Heathrow
I am 15 now and am hoping and praying that one day it will be me up there flying those jets across the skies. It has been my ambition since I was about 5, when I very first went on a plane to Florida, and it has just grown and grown on me. I’m doing quite well (I think) at school and start my GCSEs next year. I have about 19 hours instruction now and then once I am 16 I can actually start logging these hours. My main aim for now is just to get my PPL so atleast I can be up there in the sky (the best place to be if you ask me) and then hopefully build on that and try and get a sponsorship with an airline or something.
OK thanks everyone, I eventually went to Heathrow yesterday and spent much of the afternoon there, first at mrytle avenue until 3, then when they changed over to RWY 27R I got on the bus from Hatton Cross and went to the visitors center, where I could carry on getting even more new registrations. I will post a full report of the day sometime soon under a new thread.
Thanks for your help
