Hmm I haven’t had that but I can get quiet a few blurry shots sometimes due to the non-image stabilzer like my old lens, The 75-300mm IS. What settings have you been using?
I stick roughly to the settings that used to produce the best on my 75-300mm. Usually F11 if the weather allows me to keep the shutter speed high enough. Wouldn’t generally go below F8. ISO200, centre-weighted metering mode. The settings work….but it can just seem to be a bit inconsistent. I’ll see how it performs in DUB next week….seeing as I’ve only taken it on 2 trips so far.
Dan, The Bigma is going alright thanks 😀
Have you had any noticeable problems?
I can’t quite work out if I’m happy or not. I got quite a few really nice results from recent trips to ACE and MAN, but then again I got plenty that were useless. With my previous lense, I don’t think the ratio of bad shots was quite so high. I went to both ACE and MAN with Michael Catchpole, he’s using the Bigma and seems to get the same un-explained deviations in quality.
Good work!
How’re you finding the Bigma 50-500?
Can i suggest that Wannabe gb gary RIP and Future share a 7 seater taxi around to the spotters mound and then we can sort out lifts from there to the other end if in use? Maybe the above could meet in McDonalds as shud be open enough to spot dan sitting by window with his camera out lol!
I was planning on walking straight round to the mound once I’ve arrived. I planned my flight arrival time so that I’d be there just before sunrise. Only takes about 20 minutes if you walk fast, then I’ll wait for the others to arrive an hour or so later. If the weather is crap then I’ll wait for the others in McDonalds, but we’ll discuss that nearer the time.
I’m looking forward to it! Should be a good day. Once the winds are more-or-less confimed,we’ll confirm where to meet for spotting/photography.
A nice couple of shots Lance, but I don’t like the look of that livery on the Bmi 767. She looked much nicer about 6 weeks ago when I caught her in ACE:

It’s really hard to demonstrate whn I haven’t got he original to work on, but this is roughly what I’d do. Some of the details need to be sharpened, as does the plane in general (it looks as though it’s been oversharpened here, because of the small file size). A bit of playing with saturation, contrast and white balance brings me to this:

I think the telephoto effect helps this one. I’d say there’s another 50 yards left there.
Probably my favourite set of shots from you Lance, and that Swan is very impressive!
Nice work Paul, especially like the Myair climb-out!
Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM. Great lense for objects close by and at medium distance. But for long distance the photos tend to be really soft. Could not have been the weather cause it was excellent.
Hmm…how did the price compare with the Canon 70-200 F2.8? Or even the 70-200 F4? The 70-200 F4 is fantastically sharp, even with a 1.4x extender.
Well done with your first attempt Tom! You gotta start somewhere…and a day with better weather will give you a much fairer chance.
Great work Pete! What is your new lense?
Gold Air International, apparently. Not completely sure who they are though.
b = -5
5a – 3(-5) = 25
5a = 10
a = 2
Of course! 😮
Oww…brain ache. Spent 2 hours in Maths today…Intergration and Differentiation. Ugh…Along with Quantum Physics in the middle of the day 🙁
