Cheers Lance and Paul, much appreciated. We do indeed need to organise some more flying/drinking days Paul, can’t wait for the Summer!
your welcome, well i’m kinder near EGSG (Stapleford) well actually Highams Park, but Stapleford is like 15 min drive from there. and EGSS is my favourite airport too. Oh cool, would be nice to see them. 🙂
Oh, well I work and also learn to fly at Stapleford so I know the area well!
Cheers Richard. Where abouts near EGSS are you? I’m in Bishops Stortford, was up at STN this morning for the TOM 767 and Martinair MD-11 (pics to follow over the weekend)…
All I can see so far due tomorrow is these two interesting aircraft:

Nice work Lance, and you caught FR’s latest machine. Is it just a coincidence that FR’s brand new machines seem to spend a few weeks doing short trips (MAN, LBA, BRS etc) before moving on to other work? It’s just the only times that I’ve ever flown on a machine less than 2 weeks old (4 times now) it’s been a MAN, LBA or BRS flight to/from DUB.
Thanks everyone for all your kind comments. I will endeavour to get Part 4 up soon, which I imagine will be New Zealand and Australia…
Thank you for the comments everyone. Propstrike, I saw that image on pprune and it doesn’t look far off what they might have seen out the window on approach to LTN! One last nightshift at work tonight and then I can get the rest of the shots from that day on here…
Cheers for the response everyone! Yeah G-EXRS is only about 2 weeks old aswell, very nice looking bird.
Especially liking that A380. Did the weather play ball? At work yesterday it was looking pretty murky with an overcast high layer of cloud, the Sun only came out properly for about 2 hours at lunch time.
Nice work Danny, love those KLM ERJ’s. Also pleased you caught G-EXRS, I caught it half hour later landing at LTN!
Nice job Jon, as others have said make sure you learn from that one! Check out the EXIF data (right-click on a photo, click properties, then summary), that’ll tell you which settings you had for that shot. That’s how I learnt in the first place….I used to try loads of different settings and then check the EXIFs when I got home to see if any patterns were emerging. Once you’ve cracked that you can then start learning the editing skills.
Superb selection mate! Cathay 742F is a beauty. Someone needs to tell the Dutch pilot that flapping his arms really wont make the ERJ take off quicker.
Just thought I’d also quickly add a couple of shots from MAN last week, there’s not much point in starting a new thread for them. These were taken on my visit to meet up with Paul (PMN), taking advantage of a couple of empty legs on company aircraft.

Thanks everyone, comments greatly appreciated.
Craigston_Tom, yes those are the houses used in Mrs Doubtfire. San Fran was a stunning city.
Cloud_9, yes I did go to Pearl Harbour. Fortunately for me it was actually my 3rd time in Honolulu. It was only my first time on the other Hawaiian Islands though.
Nice shots, mate.
But this is a trip report really, isn’t it?
Hold on to your hats, everyone…….
If you say so Lance, but the other 2 weren’t moved. Shame that no-one visits the Trip Reports forum…:(
From here we went to Maui on an Island Air Dash-8 and my battery died when I got on the plane (there was a lot to remember being a backpacker) but I did get a shot of the ‘departure lounge’ at Kona airport.

Maui is an absolutely incredible place, it has so many qualities in such a small space. The waterfalls were out of this World.

As were the natural diving boards (yes I had a go, and yes it was brilliant!).

It was then time to get back to Honolulu for one last time before flying back to LA. We flew back to Honolulu via Kalaupapa and Molokai, 3 hops on a Pacific Wings caravan for about $25. As predicted, it was one of the most entertaining flights of the entire trip, especially landing on Kalaupapa which is a 600m strip carved out of a lava flow on the edge of the island of Molokai. The flight from Kalaupapa-Molokai was then an entire 9nm long!

Molokai airport:

And then I asked the pilot if I could sit in 1C for the final leg back to HNL.

From here we jumped on our UA 767 back to LA:

Just 2 quick nights in LA so that I could say I’ve seen Hollywood, then a flight up to San Francisco on Virgin America. The cabin was pretty funky, especially with the purple mood lighting.

I was then pretty happy to have a ‘go-around’ on approach to SFO. I was all too pleased to get another approach across the Bay with the city in the background. 15 minutes later we eventually landed:

San Francisco was a fantastic city, and definitely my favourite in the US alongside New York.

After 5 days it was the moment I had dreaded, time to leave the USA. It had been an amazing 6 weeks and I really didn’t feel like I’d seen enough. Here’s just a couple taken at SFO before we boarded our flight to New Zealand, which will be coming up soon in Part 4.

Well, some spotters will be in for a treat! A handful of BA 777s/747s have diverted to MAN, GLA, CWI and one even to BCN.
