Or you could do what I did, applied online for a Halifax Easycash account which comes with a Visa Electron card. Visa Electron is the only card on Ryanair which doesn’t get charged, so I’ve just booked 5 return trips for a grand total of zero pence!
I saw that on CFMU aswell, it actually departed yesterday and arrived in Singapore at 2354z last night. How did you get on to CFMU Sam, do you work at the airport?
Cheers Paul! Seeing as I’m at work it’s actually not a bad birthday, lots of flight planning which is fun! Apart from Errachidia in Morrocco, that was a bit of a nightmare. Half hour til I can hit the pub 😀
I’m lost for words, absolutely tragic. I have a photo of EC-HFP landing at Lanzarote a few years ago. To think that I once stood on a beach with this incredible machine soaring above my head, she has now taken away so many lives. May their souls Rest in Peace, it will make absolutely no difference to their awful situation but I wish all of the victim’s friends and families my condolences.
I’ve only just had the chance to fully read this thread, and needless to say Paul it is superb. Thanks for taking your time to show us this piece of the World that few of us will get to see, very interesting indeed and very impressive photography.
A very sad situation, condolences to friends and family involved.
I too was flying on Sunday and we just couldn’t seem to find ourselves an empty bit of airspace. Constantly having to change course due to other aircraft, and the circuit at Stapleford was a nightmare. It’s a shame that something such as this has to happen before people really take the idea of a mid-air collision seriously enough.
In response to A-Spalding i was only try to make the point of Big Cities (Stockholm, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Milan i think LS use the same airport dont they, Rome again LS use that airport, Frankfurt, Belgium) not Bucket & Spade routes or Cities inside UK, Ireland, Scotland etc
Huh? Your argument seems to be falling down around itself. Ryanair fly to Milan Bergamo, the same as Jet2. Ryanair fly to Rome Ciampino, which is actually twice as close to central Rome as the main airport, Fiumicino.
And have you ever considered that maybe people need to get to out of the way airports just as much as they do the big cities? Gerona is a very big Summer beach resort, if you fly to Gerona in the Summer you’ll see a ramp full of all the big charter airlines, TCX, FCA etc. Not everyone flying there intends to be in Barcelona. Or all of the destinations in Eastern Europe…Krakow, Wroclaw, Kaunas etc…just because the names don’t mean anything to you doesn’t mean that people don’t need to fly to them! There are thousands of EU citizens living in the UK who like to fly home occasionally, they weren’t all born in the ‘big cities’. Not to mention new destinations such as Ibiza, Majorca, Tenerife…I could go on.
Several years ago your argument might have had some credibility, Ryanair did go through a stage of pushing their luck slightly (Malmo advertised as Copenhagen, for example). But these days I struggle to agree with what you’re saying.
But any fuel surcharges / airport tax etc. ? I think that’s what people are getting at. There’s a great tendency for airlines to split ‘everything’ off the main package nowdays to hide the true cost of a flight.
No, he really does mean that he paid 1p. It seems un-comprehendable to most people (especially the media who love publishing articles on a weekly basis about how ‘the fare is advertised as 1p but add the taxes etc it comes to £30 blah blah’) but if you keep a look out you actually can get flights for 1p.
Occasionally Ryanair put 1p seats on sale and when you go to book the flight it comes up as ‘No Taxes’ (whereas other times it’ll be 1p + £15 tax or so). The other week I flew Stansted-Dublin-Leeds-Dublin-Stansted for a grand total of 4p. The ‘No Taxes’ flights are usually only Tuesday-Thursday and often on UK/Ireland routes with the occasional continental route thrown in.
Excellent video, especially when one of the guys shouts ‘filho da puta!’ which is Portugese/Brazilian for ‘Son of a B*tch’! Having worked with Portugese for several years this is about the most offensive swear word in their vocabulary 😀 Who’s 747 is it?

All taken with Canon 400D + Sigma 50-500DG, and heavily compressed for the forum.
Excellent work mate, wonderfully sharp from that 70-200. And a 732, you git!
Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Sam, the A380’s IFE was superb, the best I’ve seen. It just had a ridiculous number of movies, tv shows and music albums, I can’t imagine how even afrequent flyer would gt chance to watch it all.
chornedsnorkack, I actually found that the sidewall didn’t restrict the legroom at all. In fact, I felt that I had more shoulder and leg room in the window seat on the A380 than I have had on any other modern airliner.
Cheers everyone for all your kind comments, and yes Paul I’m really looking forward to telling you the story properly in Bremen!
Cloud9, our Twotter did actually have the full livery. That plain white Twotter in the photo was another one. With regards to Hawaii…firstly I’m very jealous! We flew on Go! from Honolulu-Kauai, Hawaiian Airlines from Kauai-Kona, Island Air from Kona-Kahului and Pacific Wings from Kahului-Honolulu. We were meant to be flying on Aloha but they went bust a few days before. I’d just pick whichever airline has the most appealing aircraft to you…there’s no service to compare because the flights are usually half hour or less. My personal favourite was Pacific Wings because they fly the Cessna Caravans which only have 9 seats and buzz around at about 2000ft so you get a real good view of the islands. Also if you can catch the pilot beforehand they’ll let you sit in 1A or C, infront of the cockpit. Their website is http://www.pacificwings.com/pwexpress/index.asp.
Whiskey Delta, for all the window views etc I was mainly using the Sigma 10-20mm lense which is just perfect! Occasionally on the ground I’d use the standard 18-55mm and then I also had a 75-300mm on me. The expensive 50-500mm stayed at home!
After a fun time in Vegas we then headed to McCarran airport for our flight to Honolulu, via Los Angeles. Here’s a couple taken from the terminal…

We then boarded our US Airways 737-300 N155AW for the flight to Los Angeles. It’s been a while since I flew on an older 737, and it felt really classic and retro inside! Here’s a wingview as we depart.

The classic cabin.

And the cockpit.

After a short connection it was then time to fly on ATA Airlines 737-800 N317TZ to Honolulu. Little did we know this was actually one of ATA’s last flights….they went bankrupt the day after. Only one shot from this flight as the Sun set soon after departure. This was a wingview just as we departed over Venice beach.

I hope you enjoyed this latest bunch, the Hawaiian interisland flights will be next.
Just to be clear, it is £4 per pax per flight for credit and debit cards. Which is why I was particularly angry. I know that other airlines tend to charge something near this rate for using a credit card….but for a debit card when the cash comes straight out the account?!
