    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the air racers are really fascinating. The next racers will be shown in a few weeks. It´ll be Yak-11 “Mr.Awesome” and Hawker Sea Fury “Miss Merced”(also known as “Signal Sea Fury”), both from High-Planes-Models in 1/72nd scale. Construction is mostly done, just need to paint them and attach the decals and landing gears. The Yak already looks like a hulking monster. A lot of fuselage and prop with very small wings. It looks as dangerous as it is/was.

    Stay tuned:)

When you want to use alclad, you need a very clean and smooth surface to get a good result. The Parkzone P51 has a very rough surface in comparison to a scale model. I don´t think it will work the way you want it. Maybe the thinner will damage the surface, too.

In my opinion alclad is a very good stuff but it´s the least thing to finish an RC plane made of foam.

I would use a spray adhesive and cover the plane in aluminium foil from the kitchen. It can be polished if you´re careful, it´s easy to repair scratches from bad landings and it´s way cheaper than Bare Metal Foil.

I would take an airbrush and simply spray it silver. Tamiya chrome silver for example. When you put Bare Metal Foil on the model, you might get some visibility problems. When you look up to the model in the air, the plane´s surface will reflect the color of the sky. So you have a sky colored plane surrounded by sky color:rolleyes:

    Hi Jason

Cool video! I´m looking forward to watch the Reno races live someday.

Where can I find the racer scale modeling forum? Is it at warbirdaeropress? I have not registered there yet and couldn´t find it anywhere else.

    Cheers:)

    Hi guys

Thanks for the info. Seems like I´m getting closer and closer to the goal. A good feeling after 18 month of exhausting search with no results. Really cool.

    Cheers:)

    PS:
Here´s the new thread for the racer models:

    Hi Folks

If someone here is registered at the “Warbirds Information Exchange Site”, I´d be very happy if that person could ask there for me. I don´t want to register in 1001 platforms to ask just one question. If you can help me: YOU DA MAN:cool:

I WOULD recomend you join WIX. Firstly they are the experts on all things obscure and American.
Secondly they would love to see your models.

    Rgds Cking

P.S. I like the sound of you project, may we see the rest of the models when you have finished?

    Hi Cking

I should take a deeper look into the WIX. Maybe it could be interesting for future projects.

You´d like to see some more models? No problem. I´ll start a new thread in the model kit area. I have some race´n´record planes already finished and some other under construction.

    🙂

    Hi Folks

Thanks for the fast answers. I have sent an email to the homepage two weeks ago but they haven´t answered yet. I´ve really turned the Internet inside out. I´m looking for this information for about one and a half year…:D

I also have contacted John Penney(the RareBear-Pilot himself) and he does not know anything about the original paintjob… He´s the one who sent me the other two pictures of the wreck but he couldn´t help me with the colors. He joined the team years after the plane had been restored. I don´t want to ask him a thousand questions, I bet he has more important things to do than looking around for information to make scale modelers happy.

A few days ago I have ordered the book “Racing for the gold – The story of Lyle Shelton and the RareBear”. I hope there´s some helpful information inside.

I´m a patient guy…it just takes some time and everything will be fine…hopefully…:o

    Cheers:)

If someone is interested…this is the finished 1985 version of the “Bear”. A great kit to build – very challenging but drop dead beautyful when finished. Hope you like it:
