    Hi,

I don’t know of any schools in Ireland, bar Eglington Airport which has a club for PPL’s.

You don’t need any qualifications from school, uni, etc, etc. It helps but who cares if you have higher English or Biology – as long as you can fly, then your in.

You need a PPL and Class 2 Medical (better to get a Class 1 if you intend to go commercial) That costs about £5k – 9k.

You then have to hour build to 150 hours (you will already have a min of 45) before you can go for your CPL, the cost varies greatly, depending on where you hour build. Roughly £7k- 10k for hour build and £4k for the CPL.

An Instrument rating is needed next, this costs about £11-13k, again depending on where you go.

Before the CPL and I/R you will have to pass your Ground School, which will cost about £1800 plus exams @ £40 per exam (12 I think).

That’s the way I’m going, but you can go on a fully integrated course, same content only quicker and possibly more structured. These courses are about £15k – 20k more expensive.

You may have to do your own MCC and Type rating, maybe about £10k 🙁

All being equal it should cost between £24 and £35 k, excluding the MCC and Type Rating.

I’m sure a few people saw the delay coming…Virgin and Air France said about 10 months ago that they are delaying their orders…

What, have they delayed their orders? Are they waiting until they know of an actual delivery date before they order?

I’ve a PPL and Night Rating. I’m studying the ATPL theory with Bristol Ground School at the moment.

I’m self funding, have already spent £14k and I assume I’ll spend another 25-30k in my quest to be a pilot.

Folk who say there are no jobs just don’t look hard enough. If you have the ticket, you’ll get a job.

The thing that annoys me is that there is no funding, well apart from a Bank Loan, or good ol’ hard graft. The jobs don’t pay that well for the conditions and also for the massive outlay in training.

I left school with the normal Standard Grades, worked in the Railways and now work for a Telecom company, wages are ok, but job is really boring.

I do find it hard to sit down and study, not too bad with just taking the info in, it’s working out the maths/nav stuff that gets me. The flying I pick up no prob at all.

Over the last year Boeings shares have increased by $15. EADS has increased by $6.

Looks as if buyers are more interested in Boeing.

No doubt they want to be number one, but you don’t get there by charging ahead. You have to be smart by bringing in new products as times change, Just because Airbus said 4 engines are good, doesn’t mean they can’t change to two.

No doubt it’ll be like the Old Firm here in Glasgow, they’ll battle it out and change positions at the top every few years.

Airlines must want it. Are they not expected to announce orders of 100 at Paris.

To me getting the money from a Bank or from the Government is all the same really. If Airbus pay back then no worries, if they don’t, it’s just like everyting else that gets poured away down the drain. Comes out of my wage each month and there’s nothing much I can do on how it gets spent.

I doubt they just want to charge into a duel to be number 1, but if they are at least it still keeps people in a job.

The trouble is… BAe is part of Airbus. This threat is sensless… they will be taking jobs awaye from airbus. Soemthing that will not go down well.

Airbus may just be cutting off the arm that feed it.

Yeah, but what is the alternative? Not build aeorplanes? As long as Airbus, as a whole, EADS, are making money I’m sure BAe will be happy. Not many companies care about employess having jobs 😡

I read it like, if they can’t get enought aid then they will offer the contract of building the wings to a different country (a cheaper country). Not a bribe, just like every contract. It’ll go out to tender, the best rate will win.

At the end of the day, if Airbus don’t have enough money to manufacture the aircraft through the normal route, they will go elsewhere – it’s business.

The government should sub them, they will get it back, plus they’ll have more folk working.

Wouldn’t want to be in it, but why are the folk who watch it called wasters?

What difference is it to watching some hyped up Play, or Opera?

Nice shots DME. 🙂 Was the TCX 757 preforming engine tests then? I notice that there is a crew on board, yet the aircraft has chocks in place.

Yeah, presume it was engine tests, never seemed to go above a loudish growl though.

Yeah another thing, when the first advert came out, the owners were ordered to cover up the frogs genitals – due to them not having any on show, so why on the new advert are they still covering it up?

I hope the frog gets killed by a truck.
