I Imagine all aircraft could take off on the one engine after the other one failed?

I watched a CO 767 take off from GLA on 23, the pilot asked for the run up as well, they were fairly heavy. After he rotated very late and on a very shallow climb out we all said to hell with that if he lost one on the climb out 🙁

    scary

    Thats interesting!!

I’ll have to speak to him and clear a few things up.

I was intending to run it as a business. If you’ve got the info to hand, how many hours does the AA5 run per year.

    Thanks

He has gotten another aircraft (a chipmunk) and wants to concentrate on this…it is also at another airfield. I can’t seem to see any other reason as well, I mean why give up £11k per year. Obviously I will have to look at the books etc to verify that the £11k is accurate

Costs that I can envisage are engine fund (engine has 1200 on it so just past half life), parking fees, it’s at an international airport, insurance, 50hr check, annual and star annual, there will probably be more i.e. tyres, bulbs, strobes etc.

The £11k profit is including putting by an engine fund, but he must have had that fund going for some time now hence the relatively low contribution per year, so I guess I may have to add a larger amount per year in order to buy the new engine when it does go pop!

I love those 360’s….people look at me strange when I say they look good 🙂 🙂

I used to fly in them over to LDY, I’ve flown in the J31, J41 as well but I wouldn’t mind going up in the otter or islander in some crazy weather :diablo:

    Hey Phil,

To become a Commercial Pilot you will first have to complete you PPL (45 hrs) anywhere around £5000-£8000. To get you PPL you have to pass a Class 2 medical which would be included it the price.

After getting you PPL you need to have 150 hrs total time which must include 70 hrs Pilot in command before you can start your Commercial Licence, in the meantime you could build up your hours by doing a night rating, around £1500-£2000. You could build up your hours in the U.K. (expensive) or try various countries like N.Z., USA and South Africa which offer cheaper hourly rates. From passing you PPL (45hrs) to having 150hrs it could cost you anywhere from £5500-£10500 depending on where you hour build. Now that you have enough hours you can go for your CPL, this generally costs about £5000 and an instrument rating costs between £5000-£9000 again depending on where you do it.

P.S. Before you go for your CPL you have to pass a Class 1 Medical which is £400ish

So doing it the Modular way (which I am) will cost anywhere between £22400 and £35000, more likely to be in the higher end, and possibly even more.

This will give you just enough hours along with your licence but obviously not many employers will take you on with this…..so it’s more money on flying, unless you go for you Instructors rating around £6000.

There is also the integrated way which costs between £50000 and £60000 and you generally stay at one school for this.

    Danair boy,

Sometimes I find myself slightly uneasy a few days before flying, I think the reason is that we aviation enthusiasts are always reading about the mechanics behind flying, finding out about crasehes, failures etc.

The normal general flying public have no interest in aviation so they really don’t have any way of finding out about small crashes which are not that well documented, where as we constantly read about them, therefore it’s not really in the forefront of their mind.

When sitting in a passenger aircraft I find myself thinking it would be so easy for something to go wrong i.e. engine failure, de pressurize but the only reason I find myself doing this is because I’m so bored and having read all these reports of crashing it just spurs on an overactive mind.

When flying PPL it never crosses my mind because you are so occupied in the art of flying

Indeed you do. But a road-based base map probably doesn’t feature (say) Old Buckenham airfield, so you’ll end up waypointing the nearby village which will endear you to no-one.

What I did think after your post was that it is almost certainly worth your while investing in a copy of Navbox ProPlan. This is software for your PC that features an aviation map and database. You could plan the routes etc on your PC then (providing the download link works the same as it does for the Pilot) simply squirt the route, waypoints and all into the GPS.

Even if it doesn’t with work with the non-Pilot version, you WILL need it when you’ve got an aviation version. It saves hours in the planning and opens up all sorts of routeing opportunities that you tend to miss with map and chinagraph.

    Moggy

    Moggy C ,

Cheers for the info. Any idea how much the Navbox ProPlan is? I’ll probably get a copy of that, try it with the GPS Plus and if it does not work ditch it and get the Pilot.

    Cheers again

You cannot add the Garmin Aviation base map to a non-Pilot III. This means that you will have to eneter all the waypoints for any journey manually. Not worth the hassle. 🙁

With the Pilot do you just point over the area and then click thus meaning it’s added as a way point?

    Cheers for the info
