I remember the skycat concept and remember at the time, skycat was supposed to be ‘the next big thing’. I will wait to see if this one gets off the ground (:p) further than the skycat idea.

I do like the idea though, and it does make sense. If nothing else, perhaps a cleaner alternative to the large use of freighter ships, trains and lorries.

You obviously don’t watch it enough Moggy, to see that that Top Gear do put cars head to head and do explain the differences, as well as quote car power, handling, comfort, relative speed, fuel consumption, price etc. Now, granted that 80% of time they are reviewing high performance cars that very few of the viewers will actually buy….but it is interesting to those mechanically minded nonetheless.

But, you’re not going to agree with anything we say as you have already made up your own mind and opinion on the show, which is fair enough 🙂 Maybe you could highlight something you are interested, so that we may pick that apart 😉

I enjoy it for it’s entertainment value, it’s cinematography and it’s technical content. Because ultimately, it does provide a good insight into the technical capabilities of a wide range of vehicles. Even if the majority of the vehicles are ones I will never be able to afford :p

They will be targeted on the AKL-LAX-LHR-LAX-AKL route, slowly replacing the 744s.

The economy sections of the ANZ 77Ws is 3-4-3 with I think, the first 12 rows fitted with the Skycouches – though only on the outer rows, not the middle seats. So therefore, if you are seated in the middle, you may have to ‘endure’ the possibility of a couple in the seats to the left or the right paying half price for the 3rd seat and cuddling up in them.

Personally, I’d rather be seated opposite a kissing couple than a screaming kid, but I guess unless you fly premium, business or first, you can’t be too picky.

This add sums up ANZs attitude to it pretty well: http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=http://www.jakethepen.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/spoonconcept.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.jakethepen.com/%3Fp%3D324&usg=__mbXfq5oRjz5sNnKlgpkAXTLj3J4=&h=329&w=720&sz=37&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=8gKQymwaAZoOSM:&tbnh=83&tbnw=182&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dno%2Bforking%2Bor%2Bspooning%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D606%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=501&oei=zZUVTYbeDIHGsAOaoZyFCg&page=1&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0&tx=111&ty=29

I’m guessing when they say the cost of the new look is around $10m, they mean the cost of the contracting work, the painting, the rebranding etc – not just the cost of someone doing the design.

Kabir, exactly. I now sit in another country and laugh at how the UK comes to a standstill with snow. I mean, it’s not as if it has never snowed there before! You would like to think that after previous experience with snow/ice, they would learn their lesson? Other, colder coutries cope….

I know that pat downs do work and are effective in detecting threats. I am more than happy to receive one if asked, as I know all too well it is ensuring the safety of all the other passengers (I’m pretty sure the analogy has been used on here before, that even the nicest of old ladies could potentially be bribed to smuggling something if all her family were at risk).

But I am also happy to pass through a scanner (regardless of what someone sees of me) if it is felt that is the most effective method of preventing threats.

And as for the issue of time? You are probably going to be sitting on a plane for hours, who cares if you have to spend 10 minutes standing in a queue to ensure your safety?
