At what point does the RAT deploy to give power to essential areas? Does it apply automatically or does it have to be engaged? My knowledge on them is very little so I don’t know if this would have been a situation where it would be involved.
I imagine there would have been a fair few early morning phone calls to get Boeing exec’s and staff in after the news hit the US. Still outstanding news that they managed to get it down within the airport perimeter.
Those are incredible photos. Thanks very much for sharing. Very severe damage but tremendous to hear that everyone got off the plane ok. Just goes to show how robust aircraft are.
Is this the 1st major incident involving the B777? Can’t recall a previous one?
It’s certainly the first major incident that involved any sort of crash landing which is incredible considering the T7 is over 12 years old! As discussed though, it sounds as though the flight deck crew did a tremendous job of getting the large aircraft on the ground and stopped safely. Similar to the IB A346 and AF A343, it’s a tremendous feet getting something that size to a halt with no loss of life.
I suppose it would have helped LHR operations today if they had had a 3rd runway to keep things moving smoothly 😉
Fantastic news. Funny how already it seems as though the novelty has worn off as there wasn’t any fan-fare even though this is still exciting stuff – more A380’s getting delivered. I’m very much looking forward to the 3rd SQ A380 for the LHR route and the first A380’s for EK and QF.
My Mum popped home at Xmas and stopped off in Sydney to see her sister on the way home. Taking a long shot I asked her (in terms she would understand) to get a photo of “a massive plane with two rows of windows – with ‘Singapore’ titles.” I was shocked (and pleased) when she came home with several pictures of the damn thing!
Any figures that indicate a reduction in the number of lives lost must be good. Perhaps as more carriers are flying younger fleets the risk of accidents due to aged aircraft has reduced (of course accidents may still happen regardless).
Yes, as a company to avoid at all costs. 🙂

You’ll be thanking that colour scheme the day you need to shift 100t of cargo in a rush, can’t get any company you know to do it and you need to try and think of another one quick fast! 😉
Seriously though, I don’t mind it. Will be a nice one for the photographers collection.
It’s like cheesey rubbish adverts. Even if they are bad you remember them because of that and the company sticks in your mind.
I mentioned before I wanted to get over to the West coast this summer. If anyone else was thinking the same, I just booked today EDI-SEA for £470 with Delta 30th June – 31st July. I thought the £550 mark was ambitious so I made a point of getting this now – just in case anyone else is looking to book something similar.
1) Graduate

Another silly question from me.
In the case of carriers that have PTV’s in the seat backs in front and the controlers for the passenger in the seat behind the one that has the PTV in it…..how are they connected?
Are the conrollers connected to the PTV in front through cables under the floor and as such, all the rows of seats have lots of cables connecting them. Or, is it wireless?
Silly Americans and their imperial system
Great video. Would be a shame if you you noticed an extra nut or bolt at once the replacement engine had gone on….not as if this happens of course :p
I guess you just have to put it down to an overworked, outdated infastructure.
Or, put it down to the fact that Mother Nature still rules the world!
I think that British infrastructure is built to fit the current needs with little anticipation for growth or problems such as these that may occur. Also, compaines prefer to have the right number of staff for the job instead of extra for “if” scenarios.
