Further expansion at EDI announced today:
No frills airline Ryanair has announced five new routes from Edinburgh airport.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary said the flights to Marseille, Pisa, Bremen, Frankfurt and Alicante would significantly benefit the airport.

Interesting, I’m looking to go to Seattle as well. Coming up as about £600 on NWA site which is pretty standard to get over.
Would have thought they would have done an introductory seat sale though, anyone know if they will be doing this?
Fasinating stuff! A good read, thanks.
No wonder it over ran, there was noone in the cockpit monitoring the landing!
That is very interesting. Indeed lucky that that was the point it came off at – it could have been a far worse angle. Also interesting that it wasn’t contained. And that is only the damage the ‘slow’ spinning LP fan blades make, the HP blades would be worse!
The inspection for this will be dreaful, I certainly wouldn’t like to be the one doing the detailed boroscope inspection!
I’ve just finished an interesting course on failure analysis, I would love to study one of those fan blades.
Yeah it is. And also as discussed before, the two engines on each wing were mounted together where engines 2/3 are for a scene in Casino Royal. Westlife jus happened to use it also.
This day and age we should be able to trush someone as famous as that. Airlines and FS Visits are now a rare not like they were back in the 90’S
Unfortunately, everyone has their price – be it in money or ransom. Hence the comment about Gordon Brown not even getting a view midflight.
Quite right as well I think. Apart from the ‘front on’ view of the sky coming towards you, what can you see mid-flight that you can’t on the ground? I remember as a kid I was usually always lucky enough to get a cockpit visit. Though I am still very must intrigued and fascinated when I get a cockpit visit now-a-days on the ground to.
Everytime I go back to NZ I usually always fly Star so BD to LHR and connect from there, so even BA aren’t getting my business for that. Even if I didn’t go BD though, I would be quite happy going BA to LHR. I suppose it is just the way I’m used to travelling now. If I want to go anywhere long haul I will have to connect through LHR from EDI to get there. This is what makes me mad that people are opposing the 3rd runway at LHR – would speed up this (usually) necessary trip.
Where as I think BA could steal some business away from the american and asian carriers by flying long haul from outside of LHR, I think as long as they have good feeder services into LHR from regional airports the system does work. No doubt though, of course, there would be many happy travellers should they one day decide to take up the former option!

Never knew that 😮 So really, Air Berlin are soon to become pretty much Air Germany!
Sorry, I just took a stab in the dark as I saw the Trans American Airlines 😮 :p
When did Air Berlin order the A330? And what routes are they putting it on?
Wouldn’t be the lowco/charter operator ATA American Trans Air would it?
I can’t remember exactly if EDI has dedicated snow clearing vehicles or just attachments for the 4×4’s (probably the former), but it is the Airport Ops and Security staff that actually do the snow clearing. During the winter period, those trained are on call for selected dates and if snow hits the airport they drop what they are doing and come in and clear it as best they can.
And here’s me thinking Scotland was supposed to be the cold part of the UK……not seen a drop of the white stuff here yet!
