Very interesting! A very positive, or perhaps optimistic, view on it also. Considering it is an extreme leap in aviation, unlike anything around today, it is surprising for them to say how early it could be with us (although testing is already underway in some form or another). What are the projected dimensions of the BWB’s? As in very roughly. Would it need any change in airport infrastructure or will it fit in ok after the A380?
On a similar note, when is the 777F EIS? Or when does production start?
I also remember plans by several companies to re-launch airships to cater the freighter market – SkyCats I think one of them may have been. Offering very favourable payloads and economics, but like the BWB – slower than conventional methods. Don’t know if that is still in progress.
Final assembly of the first 787 began yesterday in Everett, with rollout scheduled for July 8. Eventually, the company intends to assemble one aircraft every three days.
Reading the other thread recently posted regarding assembly cleared things up. For some reason I thought the 7/8/7 date was the full assembly date i.e. complete, ready for first flight. Although now the date makes sense as it is being assembled with components missing which will be added later.
I don’t know what the average assembly time for an entire aircraft is, but I’m going to be impressed to see this roll out in little over a months time! I do have every faith it is going to Boeing’s schedule, I just thought it would take longer than that.
Exciting stuff….even if it is a little late :p
Good job I recognised the tail, don’t think I’d be able to tell who the airline was otherwise….. Too much white with that livery on that aircraft I think. Although, it won’t be as bad as Air France! Saying that, I can’t imagine Air France’s staying white for that long 😉
Yeah, I will do – not sure when graduates need to start applying for jobs. By location I meant, by living/working in Germany at the moment I am not able to pop in for any open days/intervies so easily 😉
I saw the Monarch post, but if I was going to move country I’ve always planned to go back to somewhere like NZ.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up! I’m sure theres others who could take advantage of these positions also!
Symon
Pretty much what I will be looking for in 12 months time!
Shame about the timing and the location of where I am at the moment!
Agreed, the ATC is an excellent addition to the videos that’s for sure. So me being unfamiliar with situations like this what would happen to the engine? lengthy repair or entire replacement of the engine?
It would be an on-wing replacement initially to get the plane back in service. Engines suffering bird strikes are able to be repaired although they require a very thorough strip down, inspection, cleaning, repair etc. Considering it was two large birds ingested, an initial inspection may result in an immediate write off. But then again, it may be salvageable!
Do you think Virgin are going to use the purchase rights to hold out for the proposed 787-10 stretch? As that cuts into the 777-200 market, it may be a closer replacement to the A340-600s. They would still be losing capacity though…
They are a fabulous airline 😀 but then im biased. I have flown with them numerous times out there and have never had any qualms. Always friendly service and I have never felt cramped in cattle class.
Unfortunately I have not experienced the new IFE so am not able to tell you about that – although I will find out what its like when I next go out in August.
If youre going in June, winter, you may be lucky to have a fairly empty cabin if you are on one of the 747s. I have gone out several times in that period and due to the lack of popularity as it is the winter season, the cabin has not been too full and as such several times I have had 3 seats to myself.
Hope you enjoy it! Oh, and they dont mind coming back and forth topping up your glass of whiskey either!
It may be a poor choice in colour to some (I don’t mind it now), but it breaks the trend of flag carriers’ plain white schemes! Lufthansa, British Airways, Air New Zealand, Quantas, Air France, Finnair, JAL…etc, you get my point!
What a coincidence! I happened to be on a tour of the TuiFly maintenance at Hannover this morning. Here are a few, pm me if you want any more.

I hope Boeing dont get any bad press from this. It is down to the engine manufacturer/maintenance company to provide a safe, airworthy engine. The aircraft manufacturer is the one who contains any ‘offs’ and shields the aircraft.
Anyway, glad there was no serious incident.
Could they not have locked the deceased in a lavatory? It doesn’t seem fair to sit a dead person next to anybody, regardless of their class of travel.
thats a bit disstastefull :p i was thinking more along the lines of strapping them into the crew rest, if one present
or BAA and the London council could just bite the bullet and approve a third operational runway now, or draft in plans for a new mega London hub! that would solve slot problems….:dev2:
most don’t know a thing about the UK other than it includes London and Scotland.
…..and for a lot of foreigners, Scotland is somewhere “in” England
