I noticed ANZ have exercised options also and firmed up a further 4 787-9s
I remember flying with them on a Bankok/Bali trip and possibly on to Perth in the early 90’s. I’ve always been anxious flying with some Asian operators, but sometimes there is no other option.
Thoughts go to the families of those lost.
Nice shots. Though I can’t help thinking Will Smith is behind the controls of the belair singing “yo home to belair!” whenever i see that jet! :p
I went with a friend to the local job center, and one of the “star” jobs being advertised was for Security personel at Manchester Airport.
38.5 hours per week on a changing rota patern
4 weeks annual holiday allowance + public holidays
Discounts at many various shops located within Airport.
Pay £5.71 per hour.
Uniform and full training providedNow i’m not sure if Manchester airport contracts out its security services or does it in house. But for £5.71 per hour, thats not really alot of money considering the pressure that is put upon these hardworking people.
When I worked in security, I was getting £8.50 odd an hour, and that didn’t include travel and shift pay. So it just depends on the employee.
Yes indeed, post ‘9/11’ culture has most certainly brought out the tw*t in many an over zealous airport security operative. Common sense appears to have been added to the banned list. I take the train for most of ‘internal flights’ these days…
I went through security today and saw them searching a women deportee. The went through her bags and took every piece of make up and moisturizer the poor girl had. She was going back to an un certain future and they were stripping her on all dignity. I wonder how they sleep at night?

I would say now, after the restrictions have been in place for some time, a lot of the times it comes down to the personality of the gaurd.
BUT, what you need to understand is that as rubbish as the restrictions sound this is what is feeding the gaurds’ children and putting a roof over their heads. That is to say, this is their job and what they are being trained and paid to do. I know everyone hates the liquid restrictions, but DfT frequent the search area at least a few times a month, at all airports, testing the gaurds on the job. You really don’t know who they are sending through, they are the ‘mystery shoppers’ of airports. And if the gaurd ignores the restrictions and lets a test piece through it is on their record and doesnt bare well for them.
Anyway, my point is, for someone who has worked there I understand both how ridiculous the restrictions are, how important they are for the passengers safety (if you follow the Gospel of the DfT which, if you’re employed under their rules, you have to) and how they must be adhered to to ensure employment.

Excellent work! I love the head on shots, with a bird like the 330 its quite funny to see how tiny their workstation is compared to the vessel they are controlling!
congratulations! i was admiring that when i checked a.net this morning
Don’t believe in upgrades…why should i pay $5000 for a business class fare when some one who has paid $1800 for his economy fare gets upgraded and then gets the same options as me….you get what you pay for in this world
Yeah, fair enough point. Though I can’t see many turning down the offer! (myself included) Hopefully one day I will be earning enough to afford the odd buisiness trip, until then I’m just going to keep my fingers crossed!
You will be very lucky for any airline to take you on for work experience. There are a load of security issues and it also depends on your age.
Airports will issue a temporary pass as a security measure, valid for typically 5 day periods. But I do see where you are coming from.
Although accomodation of a student for this length will still be subject to security background checks to obtain a temporary pass, I can’t imagine there would be any difficulty running these checks as your only reference would be your old school and college and I pressume there is no criminal record present.
Ollie, my suggestion would be to phone the airline/companies first and ask if they offer experience – instead of sending off loads of letters/emails and wondering why you aren’t getting a reply. To those who do say yes, and require a letter, emphasise your eagerness to work in the industry (especially with that company!). When asking, stress you are only after a week or two experience – not a job – otherwise they will just tell you they aren’t looking for employees or tell you when the next interview day is!
stuninnging shots, thanks for posting! really like the ANZ T7 and VS 747
that Ryanair’s being sucked into the engine 😮
well done, nice work 🙂
follow this all the way to Edinburgh, taking the lane for ‘City Centre’ at the Hermiston Gait roundabout at the Edinburgh end of the M8.
You will have to be carefull when you get to this point. If it is rush hours, roughly 4pm-6pm, then the route from the airport right into the centre can be very busy and very slow. If it is not directly in the centre you are staying, another option is to take the city bypass (ring road) and come off at one of the junctions that has a good link to the centre i.e. ‘Gilmerton’. This way is faster than the ‘direct’ route at these times, providing you are not staying right in the centre of Edin.
Also, as mentioned, you can also get the bus. There is the main airport-centre bus, the ‘100’, which is pretty regular and benefits from the use of the faster bus lanes.
The new route from St John’s starts on Sunday 1st April
How appropriate for the sceptics that think AC aren’t going to be sending an A319 😉
It says ‘Flight 797,’ it doesn’t mention an aircraft type being a 797.
haha, so it does – sorry!
Wow! We get to see what the 797 looks like!
I would watch it, if I was in the country 🙁
Thus, the real difference berween a 747BBJ and A380ACJ is the upper deck of A380.
Interesting, thanks!
