The current Air New Zealand livery is too white (they are now painted without the pacific wave), but I sense that won’t always be the case.

I personally think airlines have a significant amount to gain from an attractive and interesting livery. In that they stand out and become free advertising. Even to the non-aviation enthusiast, the random bystander will turn and say “Oh! Look at that plane! What airline is that?”

does NASA have to compensate commerical carriers for any disruption/inconvience that this may cause?

They may just tell them it is all for the Greater Good and they have to live with it :p

I guess the ultimate trip would be on a KLM MD-11 to St. Maarten!

    -273.15 degC 😉

But yeah, I agree with you PeeDee. Pretty much impossible that none of the other millions of planets in the universe support any form of life. Just a matter of time before one advances enough to explore further, into another galaxy.

What makes me really sceptical about these types of reports, is that they are usually always either from the USA or Russia. If aliens have been visiting us, why do they always visit there? Why not Mongolia, Indonesia, Peru, Chad etc?! Though I guess if they have been clever enough to get to us, they could maybe work out who the superpowers are.

Keith, if the graphics drivers were somehow uninstalled, there would still be the BIOS info on startup that is run from the ROM. I think you would even see the Windows splash screen (Windows logo and loading bar) but then nothing else would show.

Not that it’s of any use, but ANZ have been operating $50 NZD flights to or from Christchurch for the relief effort, with a couple of 747 rotations a day.

It is a dark time in NZ indeed. The first time they’ve ever declared a National state of emergency. I think geologists say they can sometimes predict these things, but how many earthquakes in the past couple of decades have been predicted with the towns/cities evacuated? I think it’s very wishful thinking to think they can actually successfully be anticipated.

A tedious link, but my flatmate’s, sister’s, friend was found (not alive) buried this morning. It’s a very small country (population wise), there are going to be a lot of people with similar connections.

There has been a tremendous response from other countries. The UK, USA, Australia and Singapore have all sent teams over to help.

I’m not looking forward to when the next ‘predicted’ volcano erupts in Auckland…

Excellent explanation wysiwyg, thanks very much. I knew the basic aerodynamic functions of an aircrafts movable surfaces, but never in that much detail.

I do wonder if forums based more in America have people saying the same derogatory things about the likes of Virgin America/Southwest/Jet Blue and indeed if forums based more in the pacific region have people saying the same derogatory things about the likes of Virgin Blue/Jetstar/Tiger. I imagine the latter cases are more probable.

My point is. Are Ryanair unique in their trading operations? Or do other LCCs operate similarly but we just don’t hear about them….

Deffinately not a fan of Michael McIntyre or Peter Kay – just find their stuff too tame and overrated.

Big fan of Frankie Boyle, Ricky Gervais and back in the day: Richard Prior. Demetri Martin’s original stuff was really good also.
