… for starters.
Swapping a once daily for a twice daily plus an extra route, all properly paid for … that’s a set-bacK? Please explain!
What does that make the price of a used 145 these days?
J41 parked up in pride of place at the moment.
I hear they are awaiting some slot info from the other end in both cases. Eastern are pretty keen on getting the routes on sale ASAP, as you’ll see if you keep your eyes peeled on the apron at around 9.30 tomorrow.
A sad day. They tried really hard.
Aer Arann and Eastern have announced ORK, NCL and BRU. Ryanair is still on DUB, bmibaby on JER. Eastern is adding ABZ. baby has already announced 737s on Glasgow and Belfast. So pax figures might actually go up.
Already covered.
Quite right, Spence. It also seems caaardiff is a bit of an insider too.
The Master Plan will be published next week. There’ll be a summary for people on-airport, public meetings throughout the area, a downloadable pdf and so on. Of course, the Plan is not “planning”; it’s a response to a Government White Paper and deals with their policy/predictions/priorities. Public comment and market development could impact the reality – who knows what conditions will be like in 2015 and 2030!
On the current investment, caaardiff has a pretty good grip on it. We do want to avoid putting pax through the bus experience as much as possible … they don’t like it. But never say never.
The airport actually said “in the summer”, not “by the summer”! But that’s journalism for you. There’s no question that it’s going to be difficult for everyone working at the airport to make life comfortable for large numbers of travellers while the builders are in – any suggestions are very welcome.
What’s more, the idea is to provide capacity beyond the needs of the 2006 two million pax. After that, the Master Plan for 2015 should kick in – but more about that next week.
“Loco expansion”? It’s necessary to balance ideas about expansion with the other driving factor: better quality delivery to airlines and their customers.
Actually, this is not the case. In Wales, the airport receives the funding and passes it on to the airline on a per-passenger-carried basis, in arrears. However, the airport is also helping this route in other ways.
British Jet starts into Cardiff from Malta this year.
You’ll get all the info – right up to 2030 – when the Master Plan is published. Right now, that looks like being in February.
Air Wales seem to be aiming at the business traveller on this route. I’d imagine they’ll charge more than baby, add some frills like flexibility and, yes, market quite hard.

Air Wales will be competing with bmibaby from Cardiff to Belfast but aiming at a different marketplace by serving Belfast City.
The info about passenger compensation is probably best read at the European Regions Airline Association site (http://www.eraa.org). Here’s a link to the actual info:
