Thanks for all the help so far, your efforts are much appreciated.
WH904 do you have a date for that picture of RF322? The D-H code was also worn by RF325 in 1956 when it made the last Lancaster flight from St Mawgan to meet the scrapman. There is a nice, nostaligic, sad, piece of film of the event here:

I assume it went to Wroughon or scrapping?

Thanks to all who commented. One thing seems certain and that is that it is German in origin. Its great to have some idea about this relic after such a long time. I wonder what happened to it????

Moggy,
Its tragic that they were so close to the end of their tour. A relation of my father was killed in a raid on Koln, on his 29th op and it was Christmas eve 1944 and also his 21st birthday His family never got over the loss.

I will pay a visit to the cemetery over the weekend and pay my respects.

I really did not expect a reply so quickly, nor one that gave me the info I was looking for. Many thanks Whitley_Project for your quick response. I have done a quick Google on Pipsqueak and seen a photo of the unit that used to be in the box.
I now have two things to do…..
a) Persuade my friend to sell me the box
b) Find a contactor unit.
Wish me luck.
Best Regards

Ron,
Many thanks for the Varsity ID. I have always wondered whence it came.
Andy,
I have have any evidence to prove it but I am as sure as I can be, that the Whirlwind is from RAF Coltisall. I used to see them almost every day operating in the East Dereham, Nfk area.

Having trouble posting this, same problems that others seem to have had.
