A few from me today. Great day of flying at Duxford, lovely weather for it and a good crowd gathered down the M11 end of the airfield.
Wow, this is fantastic!
ImperfectSense, just to let you know how much we in the UK appreciate the Historic Flight Foundation bringing the Spit over. I saw it flying at Duxford this afternoon, and it was particularly good to see a Spitfire in markings a bit different from the norm. Thank you all so much.
I’m so glad she’s putting on a good show, her markings are probably some of my favorite, and not just because they really are true to the airframe… I’ve got a little bit of Czechoslovakian heritage in my blood, so I’m very proud that this Spitfire may help share the story of some of the “Other Few” this summer 🙂
A few of my shots from Thursdays action.
Lovely, keep ’em coming please! It’s so hard to be back here in the States with SL633 out there putting on a show, but thanks to all of you I can almost feel like I’m there too 🙂 I hope everyone has a lovely and safe airshow weekend!
Mark
Hey Mark, I tried to (belatedly) reply to your PM but your inbox is full… please shoot me a follow up or alternate means of reaching you so we can talk further 🙂
YES ( since restoration ) … 3 flights today in total.
Well, yes, in modern times… she last graced English skies in August of 1945 🙂
Spitfire SL633 is up on a test flight.

This made my morning, thank you!!!
Duxford Friday 3rd July (Part 3):
A first view of Spitfire LF.IXE SL633, recently assembled after transport from the USA, and now lodging in Hangar 2:
Oh thank you thank you thank you, she looks lovely! We’ll be sending our founder out there in a few days to get her in the air again. I really enjoy seeing her tucked in Hangar 2 with so many lovely friends 🙂
Spitfire IX N633VS / SL633 arrived early yesterday (Monday 29th)
YESSSS!!! Glad to her she made it… now all that’s left is cracking the box open to be sure she’s all in one piece 😀
Edit: Or, well, in exactly the right number of pieces…
28th June.
Had a good day at Duxford as a guest down at ARCO

I see an orange shipping container… 😉
Ahh, sorry. I hope she can forgive me…
EDIT: I’m really sorry…. 🙂
No worries! All is forgiven on the anonymous ‘net 🙂 And yes, still waiting with great anticipation for a /Super/ aircraft arrival 🙂
And still no sign of any shipping containers yet!!!
Soon…
Can’t wait to hear word that a particular one has arrived, it’s orange, says Hapag-Lloyd on the side and has some graffiti over their blue logo on one side.
Thank you all for your continued coverage of Duxford, it finally hit me yesterday what this summer will be like without our Spitfire here in Seattle and I’m so grateful to know that you fellows will be there to keep an eye on her while she’s visiting the UK.
Yesterday we hosted our Battle of Britain event, since Monday she will begin being disassembled for shipment in your direction. SL633 flew along with the Hurricane from the Flying Heritage Collection, and it was beautiful both to see and hear. Our pilot, who is also the founder of Historic Flight Foundation, wore an authentic RAF WWII Czech Flight Lieutenant’s uniform, complete with Czech pilot’s wings, quite possibly the first time that uniform and that aircraft have been reunited since 1945. It was an absolute honor to pay tribute to those “Other Few” and share the true history of SL633 with many Americans who didn’t realize the contribution of both Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth pilots during the Battle of Britain, and England’s contributions to rebuilding the devastated nations they had been forced to flee.
This is a diary about Duxford and so I don’t want to stray off-topic, but if anyone is interested in photos please feel free to message me. I hope that you will have a chance to see and photograph the same tableau at some point in the coming summer.
Is Heijo coming over as well
Not this year unfortunately!
The first Legends line-up now at:
Looks like they don’t have any pics of SL633 yet! I’ve elevated this to our founder who will pass a few along so they can make a selection 🙂
Hello all, I just wanted to say hi!
I was recently pointed here by a friend since I will be making my first visit to Duxford this September. A little about me: I volunteer at the Historic Flight Foundation in Seattle WA, currently the home of Spitfire Mk. IXe SL633, former Duxford resident B-25D ‘Grumpy’ and F8F Bearcat, and a dozen other classics which have not had the privilege of any British connection. SL633 (JT-10) will be visiting ARCo from July through September this year to join in the Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary festivities, and I decided it’s an opportunity I simply can’t miss. I’m terribly excited and will be religiously reading this thread for news of what I may see while I’m there, both at the museums and during the show. Really love all the updates so far, thank you to everyone who contributes!
I’m a bit of an amateur aviation photographer myself, so I look forward to chatting with all of you 🙂 https://www.flickr.com/photos/imperfectsense/
