probably ye, heres my latest finds, got this light metal piece with pretty much most of its grey paint, back has a plastic bit so Ill assume post war? my wild guess is that its from a shackleton(?) part number on the back reads: “121A 75170020 and next to those numbers a circle with LBB4 at the top half with a line through the circle and bottom of the circle reads 194. Aircraft related? anyone know if the frame is an aircraft frame or just junk?

some big metallic thing just out of reach at the shoreline, would love to know what it is too, never seen it before.

I cant see the picture attatchment roy9, any chance of a reupload?

was back again today at the same place and found some interesting pieces, I think a bakelite nose cone from something military(?) a strange piece I got lots of pics of with a rectangle slot, same build style as the other big wellington piece I found but what it this component? and a 1940 dated boot, pilots boot?? or soldier or civ?

also a big anchor mostly buried within the stones, I am going to be digging that out eventually.

need to find some binos because out at sea a little theres a gigantic cylinder metallic thing and im dying to know what it is. A fishing boat was having a look at it and the tide was out so more stuff is revealed.

ye could revisit but id prob have to cycle up instead or ask the house near it permission to borrow their key but I feel I may have to build up a trust first or something.

A rusty item washed up also:

well if you think thats going back in time how about this 1942 building I filmed and photographed:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWJwP1XuZBY

I was very jumpy in there for some reason, the old first aid station in it still had stuff in its wrapping, didnt want to go back there as I found baby birds and eggs everywhere on the floor, I think baby swans

I found the pencilled in sick list, looks weird. Im amazed at how someone has actually cleaned up both gun bunkers, lots of crap and glass and dirt was in them but they are spotless, id actually lie down on them theyre that clean!

well the place just gets better and better, a great big black metallic object has been washed up just out of reach of me snagging it. Same place the aircraft pieces were picked up. Will need to photograph it before it gets washed away again 🙁

is that the path via the urqhuart route? I think I walked it once, and theres me thinking I had seen everything is the sick report still there and is it wartime period? theres a cool 1939 photo of the area showing the antitank blocks being installed by a vintage crane by 2 civilians, wish I still had the link for it

@TomDocherty heres a rough guide how to actually drive right up to the gun emplacements:

    http://i.imgur.com/Dloywl.jpg

red dash starts from the back road to lossie you just need to look for a flimsy looking bridge (surprised HGV’S cross it) after the green one coming from Lossie then you turn a sharp right then its suddenly on your left, you IGNORE the car park at the start and IGNORE all the no entry signs blah blah, I can assure you noone will bother you driving up the dirt track, except sometimes you will be tailed by a 4×4. This is due to the area was a haven for joyriders using the track to dump off the cars they nicked and burnt them, at the old abandoned house etc you will see remains of lots of burnt cars. Again don’t worry if you’re actually being followed they turnaround eventually, I think its just a precaution incase you are a joyrider so they prob just want your plate 😉 Be aware also that the gate shuts at just before 5:00pm and you will be locked in the forest til the next day, I did find another route but that has since been locked. On Friday they lock up early around 4:00pm so bear that in mind.

little purple marker is where the house is where you can park, The green circle is where the gun emplacements are, they are actually inline with the abandoned house. blue dashed line is a road you can drive (slowly as its bumpy in places) right up to the firing range and plenty other ww2 buildings, hope that helps:)

ps also if you choose to ignore the path I highly suggest you really watch your step as theres that ammo bunker which is disguised as a hill and it has a gap hatch on the roof which could easily be missed and that’d be the end of you. (or both legs broken at the least)

If you drive past abandoned house on left where gun emplacements are it leads to lots more pillboxes and antitankblocks and theres a “grassy hill” but when you go up to it there a tunnel and a hidden bunker inside it 🙂

What is the easiest way to get to the gun emplacments? I don’t fancy a 3 mile walk each way from either Lossie or Kingston. is there a better/shorter route (me and my dicky leg!)?

just do what I do, I physically drive right onto the beach haha

Fascinating post. Looks like its on the raised beach near Kingston? Found some aluminium pieces on that beach some years ago near where the firing range is, must see if I have photos somewhere. Plenty of airfields near there and plenty of crashes too by all accounts. Had a walk round some of those gun emplacements back in the early eighties, one of the ones further back in the trees still had the remains of netting draped over it.

ye near kingston, Id love to see pics of your stuff. If you are referring to a pillbox at the forest? its the only one I have found that has the original camo netting on it (intact) need to photograph it actually

I forgot to add with my first post the heavy box thing with black paint also has traces of red paint on the top half of it.

I’ve had a longer look at that bracket and I’m satisfied you’ve got parts from a Frazer Nash turret……

wow nice one! great info thanks, I dunno if you saw my post about how last year I have got wellington geoderic piece, (quite big too) I hadnt camera at the time so I have a video of it here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdZS_RGHDI8

bear in mind it WAS found the same beach but about a mile apart from where I found these recent parts

these unknown items I have found too which I have videos of may help you too(?)

large bullet casing (assuming aircraft one)

A very heavy piece which I still have not got anyone to ID, that was washed up too

I thought this was part of a nosecone or propellor engine part but I think it may be asbestos so I chucked this part away:

edit: heres the post some guy called Petea on here about a wellington crash in Lossie:

    http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=88951

Does anyone have any info on a 20 OTU Wimpey which crashed just outside Lossiemouth airfield perimeter in approximately June – August 1944? The details I have is that a wing separated as it was overflying the airfield and the majority of the wreckage fell in the sea. I also believe that one or two locals may have perished in a rescue attempt.

If anyone could help with any details, particularly the serial number and date of the crash I would be very grateful.

could that be the one possibly?
