I don’t have any opinion about it, to be honest. I will be glad when it’s over and something else will be in the news. I don’t see why he should step down in favour of William though, surely he should be able to marry whoever he chooses, heir to the throne or not?
In principle I agree with you – but don’t you see the slight discontinuity with the monarch’s role as head of the church of england? I’m not religious myself but it does seem a bit weird that he is having to get married in a registry office doesnt it?!
But then, I’m also a republican so I definitely couldn’t give a damn about the whole lot of them really – think they’re all a bunch of petulant kids!
The BBC have just interrupted scheduled radio broadcasts to announce the death of Pope John Paul II. 🙁
“Who bends not his ear to any bell which upon any occasion rings?
But who can remove it from that bell which is passing a piece of himself out of this world?
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were,
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were:
Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.”John Donne – Meditation XVIII
Thank you for reminding me why I have such a dislike of the metaphysicals.
Very sad news indeed. Good man, who did good things 🙁
In my opinion, calling the Jewish son of an immigrant that lost some of his family in Auschwitz a racist is a bit much.
Didn’t Hitler have Jewish roots?! Says it all really.
But FC, you’ve just summed-up the entire problem.
There are things to be said for Blair and labour policies. But the time wasted on that stupid hunting bill (who cares?) The botched reorganisation of the Lords, the huge extra amounts of our money poured into public services with no discernable results, the insidious rise in taxation against pre-election promises of no tax rises, the cronies, John Prescott, Blunkett .. etc … etc..
But would the Tories be any better? Of course not. Just differently awful.
Moggy
Agreed agreed.
Although I did care about hunting – glad it’s been banned. I know most people didnt but I think Blair had to do it to appease the party really. He said he would and they were getting a bit uppity! Not a Prescott or Blunkett fan (he was crap in Education, then he was crap in the home office – but at least it was pc to have him there).
But I do truly believe that this country will be in safer hands for the next 5 years if you vote Labour – simple as that.
Oh dear – it’s not looking good for the turn-out figures at the election is it?!
Could never bring myself to vote Tory – having lived through Maggie and Major – both were a disaster for this country – recession is the Conservative party’s middle name. Added to that, Howard is just a racist git, trying to play off Blair’s mistakes without any sensible policies of his own.
That said, we don’t seem to be left much option – the Liberals are a bit of a joke, so it seems the only option is to vote labour. They may not have got everything right but I think this country is in safer hands with them than the other bunch!
Not at all 🙂
Not sure I should say this for fear of stirring up outrage but i actually quite admire him for standing by what he believed in (Iraq war).
Generally prefer labour’s policies too. Hate the Tories immigration policies and supposed low taxation and abortion plans and I believe in top up fees.
*FC puts on her bullet proof vest and runs for cover*
that’s depressing isn’t it Mogs?! The idealist in me would like to have read through what you just wrote and found something unfair or incorrect in it but it’s all true unfortunately. Not sure I quite subscirbe to your views of Blair – I will be voting labour I think but I don’t think they’re perfect by any means, just a better bet.
Steve Young has a name patch?! I thought you flew a chipmunk these days Janie not an F15!
Cheeky boys – the lot of you! 😮 😀 😮 😀 :p
EN830 – what are the rules regarding ex-pat voting – thought if you were a British citizen you could vote forever!
he’s 29 – so has had the opportunity to vote several times but never bothered. I have never been able to vote in a general election before, just various local ones. I always vote because women died to give me that right – I feel I ought to make the most of it!
Aaaawwww thanks guys, am really touched!
Actually spending the day writing a 3000 word essay but such is life I guess and at least I’m going out tonight to celebrate!
2 – he’s actually quite a nice chap.
Heavens above!
In what will you be flying? Where are you and your friend planning on going?
Some people are soooo nosey round here aren’t they?! 😉
