And a few more (and I’m running out of my allowance of space 🙁 )
FAA Sabreliner, Simbair 707 with RAF VC10 behind, Dan Air / IAS 707, 707 hazy day but definitely Arab origin, and at last I’ve found it ! CAAC Trident 😀

The pic of the Swiss CL44 has so much interesting aeroplanes in it! Great. 🙂

Always like that at Kai Tak and in that pic:
Cargolux CL44, Korean AL DC10 and A300, Malasian Airline System 707, Cathay Pacific 707, Lufthansa DC10, Pan Am 747 and US Navy C131.

I’m still wading through my negatives. Cathay Pacific still had some Convair 880’s and there was always interesting movements, fortunately living on the airport with a view across it from my room I could just sit at my window and click away 😀

Another couple from me;hiding behind the Trident is a BAC 1-11 which I think was Saudi registered, Argosy, TAT F27 and a Guppy type possibly a converted CL44? All taken 1977-8.

Guess I’ll add a few but some of the negs have suffered badly with age.
Air Nauru 737 – this aircraft caused Kai Tak’s only runway to be closed on numerous occassions – burst tyres if I recall.
Sterling Caravelle, Philipines Aerotransport Hercules, Transvalair CL44, Transmeridian Air Cargo CL44, Tradewinds CL44, Air Nauru 727.

I’ll dig out my pics of DC8’s from Hong Kong in the 70’s. Bit of useless info – my father was PR Officer for Alitalia when they took delivery of the ‘new’ DC8, wish I knew what happened to the publicity photos he had, lovely images.

Please excuse the quality, the negs are over 40 years old and some of the days the weather was murky. Here we go, F-BTSC Concorde demonstrator at Kai Tak. Notice on pic 5 how low Concorde is flying through the harbour !

I’ve got some of the French demonstrator at Hong Kong, including some close ups. Would anyone like me to add them here?

This aircraft stood outside the squadron flight line building at Kai Tak. Instructions were received to dismantle it ready for shipping to the UK. Unfortunately some of my colleagues were not so keen on old aircraft and it was not treated as gently as it should have been . Somewhere I’ve got a photo or two but they’re 126 film and I can’t get a neg holder for this size to scan them 🙁

I was there 1975-7 and I think the aircraft was dismantled (or should that be broken up?) in ’76.

Some years ago I came across a plastic kit of this very aircraft, naturally I bought it but its’ still unmade 🙂

Had an AOG at Wittering once – for a Hunter! The fuel tanks were knackered so an AOG order was placed and we had a team waiting to fit them, took bloody ages to arrive! Apparently they were sent to Kings Cross (don’t know where from) then put on a train to Peterborough where the duty MT driver had to collect them and get them to us in the hangar…
We reckoned it would have been quicker to send a truck from Wittering to pick them up from wherever they were.
