I think the Typhoon is even more deserving, a unique survivor but with some ‘odd’ spinner and battered home made cowlings. But I have a suspicion that like the Tempest they’re not a favourite so it would end up shoved in the roof hidden away.
I wouldn’t worry about the fighting talk of those comments in the Architects Journal having had the misfortune of working with Architects for 25 years I know how they operate. They’re mostly skint, disorganised always scrabbling around for work and when they do get it they run around like headless chickens leaving everything to the last minute cocking it all up.
With the current economic climate they’re going bust at an alarming rate so they are in ‘desperation mode’ and talk every ‘possible’ job up.
Is it possible to insure something that has been lent out and not in your care?
I was there today with my two grown up sons and we all had a great time and they thoroughly enjoyed it. By the way I counted three passes by the Spifire…
There were no passes last year due to the weather.

I think there is no point in finding wrecks unless a rapid system is in place to recover the subsequent finds. Look at the many tales of a rare wreck being found and then just being disposed of by some idiot.
And it is only money that is stopping it happening the enthusiasm to find them has to be matched by hard cash to order a recovery. Not promised hard cash but in the bank and ready.
Its UL-X2 576 SQN Lost in Denmark Minelaying.
Certainly a balanced, thoughtful and not unreasonable response……….and yes you are absolutely right it was a very easy thing to say with hindsight.
However the post was asking for other examples of just plain BAD DESIGN.
Here’s another….can any body explain the logical process which saw a brand new bomber sent into service in the 1950s with two ejection seats for a crew of 4……….the magnificent Vulcan?
I think you need to look at your text and font colour settings, your text is massive and blue, its like you’re shouting with a megafone!
I remember seeing the Sunderland Flying Boat at Calshot Castle being prepared for it flight to Florida ,it was sold ,never to be seen again in the Uk ,such a shame ,has it flown since ?? Did anyone see it at West Malling many years ago ?
Terry
No, but I saw it take if from the River Medway about 1986 or 87 at Rochester I think it suffered damage to the elevator fabric on that particular flight.
I remember it had a blue elephant logo on the nose.
Should have asked me! They’re owned by Bae and they won’t let anyone take copies.
Having looked at a few pictures of Typhoons/Tempests that have belly landed, the bend of the blades seems to be a bit less severe compared to this one [from what I can see] this looks as though the engine has hit softer ground but maybe vertical?
I can remember in the Army we had them on top of Ferret armoured cars, they were considered a ‘piece of Junk’ and spent all their life wrapped up in clear plastic and tape!
As much as I am a Spifire and Hurricane nut, if I ever won the lottery the first thing I would do is get that CASA [ HE111] in the air, I think personally Duxford needs some more German aircraft airworthy to keep history in context.
No we are all waiting for the monsoon season to be over!
It’s not imagination it’s whats in the plain brown envelope that counts.
Ah, now I see why I saw the Vulcan over the Dedham vale at 1600 hrs, remarkably quiet too, no wonder the Argies were caught out.
Vulcan to the skies will no doubt be getting a stiff letter of complaint from the Dedham residents for overflying their village.
