As I mentioned earlier, I’ve heard rumors of some substantial wing components in France but never heard any details or location mentioned in connection.
Let me reformat this…
Other:
BR369; The rear fuselage Cees has been talking about.Actually it is RB396

Any photos of this? and is it complete? I have only seen one not very clear picture of this in a magazine.
Thinking about the wings, none are likely to turn up, so what about building some with a sub-structure of wood and then clad in aluminium? as has been done before on some projects, with its relatively straight lines it wouldn’t be too complex, and murphys law the real things will turn up!
Just to remind you all.
The rear fuselage we have on display at our museum is on loan from a museum at Twente Air Force Base that went belly up years ago. We just provided much needed space to house the privately owned collection.
The museum I work for as a volunteen doesn’t own it.
Just to set the record straight.
The owners have had some interested parties among which some well known names. And it was said it was sold and would soon be moving.

How complete is this section? wasn’t it in use as some sort of outside shower cubicle?!
You will never see one fly as the engine has now been discredited despite successful development afterwards.
Wot, no crate!
Looks like battle damage on the aircraft to me, but there may be a different cause.

I fear you missed my joke!
Someone has nicked the ID plate out of the cockpit!
Just four holes remain.

So does that now make it a replica or a recreation?
I have often wondered whether the ruts we all stumble over in the traders tents at Duxford are the remnants of the slit trench dug for the film?
I’m sure the Prototype E.E Lightning survives in the UK somewhere, I forget where I saw it, The engine intake shape is quite different to the production examples.
Did LK488 serve with the Chines AF:eek:
:):D
A fully restored tail section put on display at Hendon would at least
give people a chance to see the size of only part of the aircaft. A large sized photograph (as did used to have on the wall) would give an idea of the whole of the airframe.Would be nice to source such a project out to MAPS for instance after they finished the Defiant.
Nudge nudge wink wink

And if they built it in the Shorts Tunnels [ still there ][ see youtube] it might
count as original!
Its a common planning ploy where there is a potentially sensitive historic issue with building a housing estate, they give out all the positive vibes about restoration etc so everybody gets used to the idea of actually building on the site, then it tails off after a few months and then the focus is just on building the houses. It happened to Fort Clarence in Rochester in Kent, although it wasn’t knocked down a great opportunity to restore it to its original setting was lost as it was surrounded by housing so the moats couldn’t be dug out and then horror of horrors they actually built on top of the Historic Gun Tower! And by the way EH were hand in glove to this vandalism.
Don’t rely on EH to be that diligent they ain’t that good.
Spitfire [ looked like a baby Spit] heading NW over Friston Suffolk on Saturday
14th April at about 14:45.
🙂 will it be at *******:)
How much of it remains,is there enough for a genuine rebuild.
Quite a lot, they managed to recover a cigarette butt from the bottom of the cockpit which reputedly fell from the lips of the chap at Supermarine who fitted the wings.
It will be encapsulated in resin and bolted to the inside of the cockpit to insure
originality with the real aircraft.
Let’s hope that don’t send the engine away to the same people as the uk based example! That’s been awaiting its engine for about 5 years!
Good luck to them!
Its more like 15 years isn’t it?
