What about Phillip Meeson? used to fly a red pitts at Biggin in the early 80’s, his name just stayed in my brain all these years for some reason.

Some big flyable Mustang models were built by a colleague of mine for the film,
so some shots will be models.

Is’nt there a rebuild project currently on the go in Linc’s ?, I had heard that a large amount of parts etc had been brought over from Canada a few years ago, to somewhere in Linc’s. Probably just wishfull thinking ?.

We seem to have drifted off topic! I only mentioned the Battle as an example
in respect of using 3D CAD to build up the missing parts of a restoration project.

The drawings for the Hampden are far from complete, small drawings seem to have survived quite well but drawings for some of the major components i.e. the bottom longeron for the rear fuselage ( quite important ) were disgarded when Handley Page folded. Using old photos, recovered wreckage ( mostley from L4063 ) and gleaning information from assembly drawings where the part is included but there are no dimentions, this was the case for the lower part of frame 2a where I projected the assembly drawing full scale onto the wall and got the rough dimentions from that, a bit of tweaking and frame 2a was recreated.

Sounds like you need to use some CAD draughting, MAPS in Rochester
used it to good effect with the Battle cockpit using Rhino to ‘ Join up the dots ‘ If you need any assistance on that drop me a line.

What they do need though if you are local is volunteers to help run the museum and restore the aircraft. Forget the facts and figures get stuck in!

I Think we like ‘597 because she has the nicer stubby prop blades with the long spinner and also the lighter? dark earth scheme.

I think it just needs a polish. It looked immaculate not so long ago, and lets face it, it’s not hard worked in anyway.

Great thread, best of luck, one point though is once its flying, remember it’s quite a heavy bird and won’t be able to be thrown about like a stunt plane.

I would donate the Hurricane to the Indians, they need a flyable Hurri and that would put paid to LF363 being swopped for a pile of scrap.

    Hi Owen,
I was in the Hawker restorations workshop in the summer [ I built a Le rhone radial engine for their Egyptian scale model plane ] and took a few shots, so I will fish them out and send them to you.

Well at least the Hurricane situation is sorted, I have always thought a good film would be one tracking the exploits of the Newchurch wing shooting down the V2s, it might kick start the Tempests from their slow restorations.
