Just rang the airfield, they wouldn’t discuss it, they didn’t deny it though??

Are you sure you’re not confusing this with the incident two years ago?

Nice clear shots, I was impressed by the composition and the rain drops on the B17 cockpit shot.
I am always amazed by the lack of workshop machines in the restoration hangers Ive got
more in my modelmaking studio! Makes me wonder what I could achieve….

I have no preference for seeing the Halifax “as is” or restored but what I found confusing was (if my memory serves me correctly) the turrets HAD been restored.
I’d say all or nothing – anything else just isn’t right.
The Turret was restored before the decision to show it just ‘beached’ which gives you an idea what could have been done, it just goes to show if you leave something it will rot anyway.
I have often thought a good compromise would be to restore it to the condition it was just before it sank through the ice, so effectively not removing its history. Also that area of London has also gone down hill.

I wonder how one scoops out the sand from inside and out from underneath between tides?

Has there ever been a successfull restoration of an aircraft from salt water immersion?

Yes they still exist -one is substancially better than the other. It was lent to a Hawker restorer but seems to have vanished since! The other cockpit including Indian rear fuselage was last in Norfolk.
Thanks for the info.
So it seems one cockpit was taken apart for the restoration of the RAF museums mk2 and the other has acquired the rear fuselage of the same mk 2 [I guess] because this was for sale a while ago with a tail unit.

Really what you need to use this tecnology for is a Napier Sabre! I think also the layout
of a Sabre lends itself to this process as basically they appear to be a series of rectangular blocks [ roughly ] in layout that are bolted together.
Imagine getting these accepted! You would have to register the aircraft in France and then fly over to Duxford only at the Air shows!!

In her own words ” Why couldnt the schools have ever arranged a trip like this, I never understood any of this before today, but I now understand some of what went on and the actual cost of life involved?”
The schools do organise trips to the Battlefields, its part of the curriculum my son went to Ypres [ my Grandfather was there in both wars incidently] and the whole year thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think the Warwick looks a better and neater looking aircraft than the Wellington, or is it just me?
