I think the thing to do is to name and shame the individual who wrote the article, I think we should have a ‘goofers gallery’ where everyone in the forum puts in the journalists name in capital letters and comments on what a plonker he/she is so that in a google search this comes up big time.
My Grandfather on my mothers side [ born in 1900 ] was in both wars in the Artillery so caught the last couple of years of the first in Belgium and was in the BEF in the second attached to the Highland division his whole platoon were captured apart from him and two others they split up and spent about six weeks on the run trying to get back to England he made it back on a coal barge, his platoon were force marched to Poland and captivity.
After all the sacrifices this country has made twice, we owe Europe absolutely nothing.
Great work Dave, hope it all comes together, I have one suggestion, why not just try and get it to a taxiable condition rather than flying condition otherwise all your original finds will have to go to the scrapper and It will be a brand new aircraft.
Hopefully the RAF museum will spend some cash on a sprinkler system, all those planes are for the most part sitting under a ton of wood, the odd fire extinguisher dotted around ain’t good enough.
I haven’t read all the posts so apologies if I’m repeating here but as regards Decals that problem is dead easy to resolve, all you have to do is get the customer to assemble the logo or roundel etc, Its a bit like the swastika which is illegal in certain countries the decal sheets have it split up into two arms and all you have to do is put it together. So the red dot could be separate which on some I’m sure I’ve seen. Also isn’t the roundel very specific as regards proportion and size? one could argue that its only representive?

How is it whenever anything to do with the RNHF crops up somebody comments ‘ don’t forget its taxpayers funding this’? If you don’t go to air shows and have never seen the RNHF fund raising stand then don’t comment if you haven’t anything sensible to say.
There’s a lot more uncontrolled wastage of Tax going on this country without picking on [which in this case is untrue] things that are small beer.
I really don’t think that taxpayers money should be spent on religious establishments. This isn’t to say that the men and women who took part in the Battle shouldn’t be commemorated, they should be and they are, elsewhere.
Those who have a bee in their bonnet about this chapel should form a society dedicated to its preservation and seek private funds.
Regards
Id like to see you say that to the face of a former Biggin Hill veteran.
If I was on the local council I wouldn’t play the Government and MOD’s game, I would just say ‘ can you come and knock the Chapel building down for us?’ Or find out exactly which individual had decided to remove the funding for the Chapel and see if they wouldn’t mind being quoted in the press. The trouble with these people who make the decisions is that they are overpaid cowards.
Er it has….
So have these Spitfire parts actually come off a MK12? If not it confirms the point Im making if you collect a series of parts together and ‘decide’ on a chosen aircraft I.e. A Typhoon with a Tempest cockpit frame,Sea Fury fuselage it doesn’t make it a Typhoon even if those parts could fit on.
I think actually when you scratch the surface there’s not a lot of Typhoon there as even the cockpit tubular structure is a Tempest conversion, Somewhat reminds me of a Spitfire Mk 12 that was a ‘survivor’
It would undoubtedly be better to merge the parts with another project and maybe do some proper research on those ‘surviving wings in France’.
That has probably been scrapped already the Indians are quite cavalier about chopping up historic [ or nearly historic] artefacts.

I’ve always been puzzled by the fact that the rockets weren’t very accurate, whenever I see that piece of film showing one firing its rockets in France [ they always use the same bit of film] they all fall dead spot on to the railway tracks from what looks like quite a distance away and to my mind disproves that.

I always thought it was a bit like RAL 6033 Mintturkis a grey/blue/green colour.

Thanks Michael,
Yes that was awesome, and a relatively quick rebuild too.
