Its very simple really, the containers were held as a favour and the persons providing storage in the end got fed up or changed their minds, and It co-insided with the owner running into financial difficulties. So they took steps to get their money. The original worthy plan to restore the aircraft being put to one side.
No one in the case seems to come out very well.
I reckon Tighar is a bit like what’s happening to railway preservation in the UK, Railway enthusiasts have always been the dirt clinging to someones shoe, but now that a lot of money is spent on the preserved railways a lot of toffs have started to find them and their activities socially acceptable, so are starting to take over.
No one on this forum should ever criticize the pilot on his airmanship, the normal way is to congratulate the pilot on his landing and say that the air accident people will work out the reason and then it goes very quiet.
Shocking I agree, but the only way to avoid it in reality is to get on a plane, get there, find out who’s selling it, get your cheque book out, pay for it, organise transport home, pay for that, go home, wait for six weeks for it to arrive at Felixstowe [ or wherever ] organise transport from the docks, find somewhere to put it.
Then you’ve saved it, How is your bank account to do this lot?
None of you read my post carefully enough ! the list above has forty odd aircraft but the Duxford list has 26.
What a line up????!!!!
I think you’ve doubled the number of aircraft, take a look at the Duxford participation list its 26 aircraft and if the connie, avenger and Lightning drop out its the same old, same old line up.
This is my favourite, I commissioned this for my kit and it is by Pavel Rampir of the Czech Republic.![<img src="http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww213/grahamf_bucket/SupermarineSpiteful32ndScalefinal_zpscf825be1.jpg" alt="http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww213/grahamf_bucket/SupermarineSpiteful32ndScalefinal_zpscf825be1.jpg" style=";" />](<img src="http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww213/grahamf_bucket/SupermarineSpiteful32ndScalefinal_zpscf825be1.jpg" alt="http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww213/grahamf_bucket/SupermarineSpiteful32ndScalefinal_zpscf825be1.jpg" style=";" />)
Graham.
So has the Spitfire (a Mark 22 I believe) been traded to Kennet themselves or is it destined for the Egyptians?
Doesn’t seem like a good trade? A rare Spit 22 for a P40?
Its great to see the Typhoon get some attention, the new paint somehow shows up the badly fitting ‘homemade’ cowlings and dodgy spinner. I don’t think it ever had a lick of paint from the moment it went in. I get the feeling that this aircraft and the Tempest are not well regarded in the RAF museum [ I stand to be corrected ] with the Tempest having disappeared into the roof as target tug I wonder if it would be better for them to think perhaps about a swop to another museum that perhaps appreciated their respective types service history?
It must be hard work being a person that never allows himself any luxury at all unless he feels he is getting maximum value for money [ how one can define that accurately?] It must be miserable to not be able to enjoy Duxford without seething all day. Its not like this is an activity that is done every week.
I wish some people would put in the same effort of objection to the ever increasing costs of the things we can’t do without but I know how we British deal with that usually a shrug of the shoulders. If you want to work out the inflation increases cost year on year its 7% [no more no less] not the lie we are always told. Work it out if you like A Ford Sierra was 4K in 1982 what is the equivalent Ford now?
Yes depressing reading, I thought the comment about the operators doing it for profit and not pleasure a bit of a laugh. What I find surprising is that the regulatory situation in Europe is less onerous and I know that this is the case, but one would think that France for instance would be a total nightmare as they are not known for having a lack of expensive regulation in everything.
No, the only thought that has occurred to me is only if I could come up with a device that sends out a distress call, can still do it in great depths of water and doesn’t run out of battery just before possible rescue/or finding of ones mortal remains.
I think a quick search will bring up quite a few threads about the Lanc in Sweden!. It’s a well known wreck.
No tried that! Lanc + Sweden result = Zero. Must be another Forum!
Watched this, good programme, I was stunned by the fact that a Lanc is still in a bog in Sweden, That’s never come up on here.
