I was generalising about the majority, sure one can always find a minority of losers.

I think anyone who thinks that the Prices for Duxford are over the top needs a reality check, especially those current pensioners in their mid to late sixties who are probably doing very nicely thank you, as my parents are and who only ever had little jobs. One only has to think about filling up your car and what little distance you get for that or buy a tin of paint. I wouldn’t like to be in charge of setting up an air show there must be a million things to think of.
We know its the Imperial War Museum but its not entirely a state funded occasion, so we shouldn’t expect any kick backs.

Apparently the best thing to rot your spars on a wing mounted with guns is cordite smoke.

I’ve got an idea why don’t we all chip in on this forum to get a replica spinner made for the Typhoon on its return? The difficult bit might be teasing the drawings out of Bae or whoever has them.

There seems to be more than one FW190 that landed in the UK by mistake, there is the fabled one that was landed by Arnim Faber at Pembury South Wales and this other one at West Malling? I thought the South wales one was first.

I like the gloss, it highlights the shapes more.

If it is SM969,does a Griffon Spitfire sound like a good idea for your first Spitfire?

I totally see and understand the points made here and where the UK is heading but I’m going to put a positive spin on this, I think the computer games and entertainment ideology the young are going through will eventually wane [ everything does] My son for instance is nearing the end of an apprenticeship in engineering and spends his spare time restoring old motorbikes as do some of his friends, I see a lot of youngsters involved in volunteering.
The only thing that may let them down is the general culture in the UK of the large corporations aided by whatever government of the day grabbing all of their money and they in turn working ever harder and longer hours to keep going.

Another previous discussion from the good old WW Forum days if I recall correctly – presumably the first thing to do would be to find a spare pair of Attacker wings somewhere in Pakistan. The tail is pure late series Spitfire and IIRC the fuselage is little more than a late series low back Spitfire with a raised cockpit area.

I don’t think there is any information on the subsequent fate of the Pakistani Attackers, although it would be nice to see some in service [ not the usual ones where they have just been delivered] Also its impossible to tell weather their wings were folding but fixed shut or built non-folding from the start.
As for the Spiteful fuselage it appears that the wing spar mountings were further back from frame 5 [as in the spitfire] but I haven’t found a good view to absolutely confirm this.

In direct reply to your post, my thought is Bruce Lawless’ Tempest 5 off the coast of Dover. This is the aircraft that he ditched and was rescued by
RAF launch. This was apparently the first Tempest to be ditched. Restored and displayed next to the Spitfire and Hurricane at Manston perhaps? and not hidden away in the corner of a roof.

JU52 flew over Camden in southerly direction straight over Kings cross and St Pancras at 1904 now flying north at 1914.

I work in Camden town and every so often I can hear what for all the world sounds like a Dakota [ I’d lay money on it!] but I’m sure its the traffic spotter plane which I suspect is something quite mundane!

That’s because it’s in the ‘aircraft parts’ section. A big clue is in the name !!

Have you seen how many aircraft parts listed in militaria and not aircraft parts?

Very nice 2 seater Sea Fury canopy with good photos and not too much money really, If that had been a single seater version I would have had it.

Interestingly if you put in Hawker under militaria its not there! that’s my issue with ebay the search engine and the categories are not brilliant.
