LM739 did not have fuselage windows.

    Hi all, I’m new here.

Grogs the Shot was (after D-Day) the personal aircraft of Sqn Ldr Scott DFC, whose flight engineer was my great uncle, Plt Off James McQuaid DFC. I don’t have any photos with me but off the top of my head, ‘739 did have windows but were painted over. If that was what you meant then I’m sorry 🙂

Many years ago there was an item on the local news about an expedition to find a cache of Merlins that Rolls Royce had burried in a public park in Hucknall after the war. Never heard anything since. Perhaps they are still digging.

They did find 2 out of an anticipated 3. They were dug up from titchfield park, in Hucknall in about 1996. I was about 5 years old at the time but I remember the excitement around the town (I’m a Hucknall boy). I believe the rumours t the time was that they’d be restored and donated/sold to a deserving party, possibly BBMF but I’m not sure.

Thank you all for your replies. The black and white ones from the filming of the Battle of Britain were just the sort we were after. The Internet is a wonderful thing but I can’t find any of her from c.1940!

I was going to print screen and paste an image of the site, as the thread title would suggest. But I’m using a iPad, and I haven’t a clue what I’m doing. Perhaps someone might be able to tell me how, or post their own print screen? Thanks.

To my untrained eye, this looks like metal, not fabric skin?

Saw a Hurricane fly over Hucknall at about 13.30 this afternoon. At first glance I thought it was LF363? And what I believe was a P40 has just finished an excellent display over Hucknall airfield.

Great photo’s, thank you for sharing 🙂

Quick question: Which Spitfire is that in the first photo with the Buchon? Is it ‘631 from BBMF? Or has she already returned to Coningsby? I did initially think it was the Rolls Royce Spit PS853 but I assume she’s still grounded.

It’s always useful to try the search function first: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=96561

I tried, I thought the posts were a little dated.

Has ‘853 still got it’s wing problems? Lack of spares, is that right?

The other option is to reinstate the length and direction of the original main runway (from 1943-1945) as a grass strip.

Would this mean the runway would be split into half grass and half concrete? It looks like the main runway would need to be extended by about 400-500 metres. So could the concrete be repaired where necessary and then extended to the West with grass? Or would it have to be concreted?
A lot of questions all in one there, sorry about that!!
