I got hit in the head with a piece of disintegrating lorry tyre as a child, as a result I have been left retreaded
Having been inside this airframe a few times, I can tell you that it is in incredible condition. It is certainly not unloved and I am lead to believe that it has the most complete interior of any AEW2, from what I have seen I do not doubt this.
I’d never heard of the Viggen being in the frame, however what a beautiful ‘if only’ moment I just had imagining them on regular training sorties through the Loop.
There would have been a significant reduction in empty weight with the tail turret and war fit removed also, could this not just be a really simple CoG mod?

From Great Grand-daddy to the stepchild that is kept in the shed….. The Martin Jetpack
I have an overhauled Bristol Cherub series III from 1926. Anyone have a PRACTICAL( ie complete drawing set ) of a suitable aeroplane???? Hawker Cygnet or Heath Baby Bullet come to mind.
My own suggestion was a RR Goshawk and a Westland Pterodactyl V, however the Cherub and a Pterodactyl I makes for a massively unusual build….
I think that this might be a wind up , the questions are comedy genius.
Damn, too late! This was a spoof advert on ebay for the French built, delivery embargoed Mistrals, but it seems to have been taken down.
This has just appeared on ebay Hilarious!
Actually, it is no longer hilarious, it has been deleted. Someone had put a spoof advert for the Mistrals on ebay.
Actually, I wonder if you are on to something there? Could it be down to controlling the harmonics? A long cylinder bank like that could build up quite a resonance wave.
….What is a pulse tuned collector – sounds very Star Trek..
In a car, bike or boat engine (or a lower speed aircraft for that matter) pulse tuning an exhaust is a way of getting a little more power. Basically, imagine each pulse of exhaust gas passing along a pipe. In front of it is a wave of high pressure, which will help close the valves. More importantly, behind it is a wave of low pressure which helps draw the waste gases out of a cylinder. Pulse tuning is done so the wave of high pressure hits the next cylinder and the low pressure the preceeding cylinder at just the right moment. In a high speed aircraft, the venturi effect across stub exhausts has the same extractor effect as the low pressure wave, but for lower speed applications such as a boat or tank (and there is the answer, I think?) it would be highly beneficial.
Then again, proper alignment of the DiLithium crystals would be a better solution :-p
According to a TV luvvy type friend of mine, the Top Gear presenter team are nothing but performing monkeys. Everything that they do is scripted, the ‘japes’ that they get up to are mainly the result of the writers and directors. The trouble they get in to is usually the result of someone else saying ‘It will be fine’ and the editors not looking at the bigger picture when it comes to time to air. In this case, actually going to Argentina to film a production known for it’s jingoistic leanings was asking for trouble and whoever green lit it needs a poke in the eyes. Argentina is full of people who are looking to blame Britain for all of their ills and it was always going to be the case that someone would get offended and drum up enough support to form a lynch mob.
If Clarkson was dieing of thirst then I would pee on the ground next to him to tease him a bit, but I actually felt sorry for him over the whole ‘eeniemeenie’ thing. When you look at the video, he is very uncomfortable with what he was being paid to say and insisted on the script being changed because he knew that it was unacceptable.
Oh, and by the way, my family is Argentinian

Merlin firing order 1A, 6B, 4A, 3B, 2A, 5B, 6A, 1B, 3A, 4B, 5A, 2B A being the right bank as viewed by the pilot
Griffon firing order 1A, 4B, 3A, 2B, 5A, 1B, 6A, 3B, 4A, 5B, 2A, 6B
The overlap in the Griffon firing order is interesting, almost as if it is designed to be used with a pulse tuned collector to get an extraction effect. This would easily explain the difference in tone. I wonder if that is to give a more predicatable torque pulse?
Correct Rab, the 1st prototype to be precise. Over to you

OK, time for me to throw one in. No clues to begin with, off you go!
