Hi folks,
just chipping in with my ha’ppney worth but this is an oft repeated factoid which I have also seen applied to Hurricanes and Typhoons. I think it refers to the energy (the impact and and the explosion combined) rather than just the explosive power.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the later model Beaufighter was a more stable and predictable platform at lower altitudes than the Mosquito, but for the life of me I cannot remember where it was.
Hello Spartabus !
One of the few Avian 2/180 gyrocopters from Canada. I think this is the final example built, as Model 2/180B, with the “cranked” nose wheel strut (all other 2/180s had a straight strut). Registration possibly CF-JTD-X (?)
I am so sorry everyone. Had an accident and have been off work with no web access at home. Typical after I land only my second Wot Plane ever!
Wout, you are correct. Well spotted with the cranked nose leg
Matt
Is it time for a clue? This is a still from a Pathe news reel.

Is it a Security-American S-1-B?
I remember my Dad reading a Thomas The Tank Engine story to me as a child and throwing the book in the bin in disgust. It was Henry The Green Engine, the story of Henry’s Sneeze, where the good Reverend Awdry tells of clag being blown from the smoke box at a gaggle of miscreant stone throwers on the bridge and leaving them …‘as black as niggers’ . This has been changed now, to match modern patterns of language. This is the way of things, even if it distorts history.
Looking back now, that was more than likely a first edition that he dingied. Damn you, Father!
