I live in Oshkosh 🙂
How many tents can you fit in your back yard? 🙂
This sounds familiar…
Anna (Mark9) and I were also at the Vulcan at 11:00 on Sunday, joined not long after by Ashley (hello again, Becka!), with her Spitfire jewellery and Elvis bag, and eventually (after prompting by phone… ) by Robbo, Kev35, and MikeJ.
You couldn’t have failed to miss us – together we made a weird-looking group! For example Kev (in his wheelchair) did not look comfortable acting as Robbos go-kart/camera bag-holder!!! Or how about when some of the guys lunched on beer with cod and chips covered in some sort of green gunk?
Anyway, Anna enjoyed her ride on the rocket shaped Harrier simulator, so all is right with the world…

Sorry I was not meaning to appear to criticise people for an apparent no show. I had not met anyone from the forum at that time and I was led to believe by someone who has that we were the only ones around.
I suspect that weirdness is all comparative and there were some odd people around. You probably aren’t as weird as you think!
I am sorry I missed you all and hope I can meet you in the future.

I have not looked through them fully yet but here is one I quite like. It shows the scale of the flightline.
Thanks Flood – a minor miracle – The reason I took the photo by the speaker was the first two shots were marred by the a/c not being in the shot fully because of shutter lag!
Panning with an open eye solved that one as can be seen by the pic of the Spit. That was where I took the initial shot of the P39! Sunday was a fast learning curve for me!
Some more
Following my first attempts with a new camera at Legends a photography advice forum would be great. It would enable those of us new to aviation photography to learn from the obvious masters of which there are many on this forum.
Me too! For photoshop experts how do you get rid of loudspeakers? – pic 2
Not experiencing it alone because of disinterested friends and family!

I used to work for the NHS dealing with Doctors – support staff have patience too! I enjoyed our chat and I also enjoyed not getting my enlarging hairline burnt for once!

if you dou watch video cameramen that is their standard technique, and if you are following moving objects there is not a lot of difference.
Thanks for that – I seem to have learnt a well known technique by accident! I wish someone had mentioned it on the many posts about photography recently. I got some good cloudscapes though!

I got photos without people in the way – It’s called patience! I like to have a person in a shot to give scale. Accurately attired people are a bonus.

I discovered that if you keep the eye not using the viewfinder open it makes it easier to pan the camera. I missed most flying a/c until I tried that. It may not be a professional way to do it but it got me over the pain of shutter lag!

I am obvoiusly not a true enthusiast – I had a great time, as usual. It was great to meet other forumites and watch an excellent air display. There were only two other people from the forum at the Vulcan at 11.00 on the Sunday but since I overslept because of a late night/early morning and the presentation was in a pub I wasn’t surprised!
I spent the display with a young (to me) guy from Switzerland who was excellent company (to my shame I can’t remember his name) and watched the best display I have seen for years.
Bearing in mind the weather we had prior to the event it was astounding that so many aircraft were present. At Sun ‘n’ Fun in Florida I was disappointed that the number of warbirds were less that 20 if you don’t include Harvards/Texans! This was due to another event and the poor weather elsewhere leading up to the show. Not so at Duxford they all made it and some even performed elsewhere during the weekend.
£25 is the equivalent of a national motorsport event. Legends is an international event as could be seen by the international participation. In addition to the display there is the largest aircraft museum in the country. I didn’t have time to visit all the hangars because I would have missed some of the display. I remember in the past at air displays having time to visit everything the airfield had to offer whilst helicopters fluttered around and fast jets did fast passes.
Most of the criticisers on the forum have seen most of the aircraft on display before Sunday, so have I, but it is the fact that they are all there at one time and at one of the best aviation museums in the world that makes it so special.
The only reason that for some people £25 is excessive is that they take the museum for granted I hope that taking TFC for granted and indeed implying that they are profiteering does not discourage Mr Grey from baseing his aircraft in the UK.
My companion on Sunday had flown from Switzerland, attended Duxford for the weekend, and then flown back – that is a true enthusiast – and from Stephen Greys country of residence too. I hope the comments on this forum do not make Mr Grey wonder if it is worth it and relocate to a more appreciative location.
We ‘enthusiasts’ in the UK should be giving owners and operators of warbirds every encouragement to bring their aircraft to Legends. Who knows a certain gentleman with a new looking bomber jacket with Southern Cross on it standing near me on Sunday may be persuaded to look in his toybox!
In summary of this long rambling:
Thank you The Fighter Collection for an excellent show for a reasonable price.
PS – At most events food in the UK is always the same – either accept it or bring your own.
