Yes, it is. It is a late war so called ERLA Haube (canopy), first used and developed by ERLA company of Leipzig (BTW they built roughly 1/3 of all 109´s. Black 6 -G-2 trop- formerly at Hendon, now Cosford, was built by ERLA).
What about the paint scheme below? It would be a totally different, irregular one. One that would certainly stand out and is outstanding as well. (Though you must not change the Merlin for a DB 605, Buchons get away with it as well.) Just joking, I do not believe any owner would go for it, but who knows? Maybe someone has a weird sense of humour…….

Very nice video definitely worth watching, I only ever saw a short version of it online.
BTW one thing I never knew before: Me 109 G-10 flown by Mark Hanna (RIP) still was registered D-FEHD (as she was formerly as a Merlin engined Buchon). I now learned she changed registration to D-FDME (still her reg with Airbus Group now) later than 1995 -maybe after she went back to Germany from New Zealand?
Thanks for posting the video!

Wasn’t there a Buchon painted up in a USAAF scheme (with invasion stripes?) for a film? Patton? Sure I’ve seen a pic…
In fact there were 3 Buchons converted to star as fake “P-51B´s” in “Patton”. But the clips were never used in the film. The movie scenes were shot in France, one of the Buchons (G-AWHG) was damaged in a landing accident. IIRC they were G-AWHG, G-AWHL and G-AWHS.

And if in its stock configuration it will be flown and displayed more often, all the better. (I know some of the most highly modified Reno air racers, like Rare Bear for instance, can be real chores to fly, and thus hard to really enjoy – limited to test flights and Reno.) This project to return the aircraft to its original T.20 configuration has seemingly been in the works for many years now (as much as 14 years, going by Ken Dwelle’s description), and it is wonderful to see it completed/flying. I look forward to seeing the paint work when that is finished.Speaking of Sea Fury T.20’s, the all-red “D-CACE” at MeierMotors should be getting very close to fly as well.
Some pics I took of D-CACE at MeierMotors in July 2014. She´s much more complete by now, recent pics on MeierMotors homepage / Facebook page. I would not be surprised if her maiden flight will take place this year.

Just an (maybe foolish) idea seeing Hugo Broch sitting in a Spitfire: What about a British WWII fighter pilot flying in the G-12? It would be interesting to get an opinion of the “other side”. I´d love to read / hear the comments….
BTW: DB powered would even be better, but Merlin will at least sound familiar.

The information provided in the first link, regarding the 2. prototype is wrong. It is not in the Berlin Luftfahrtmuseum, but in the Technik Museum Speyer. See my pics taken there.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a bit daft?
Yes, OK, you can operate it on two different powerplants, but why go to all the bother of converting it into a G-12 in the first place?
Why not just build this instead?

Daren, they had a damaged Buchon, needing a lot of work. No one wanted to buy it. The Merlin at least needed to be thoroughly checked (engine running when prop hit ground) They had a DB 605. So they could have converted to a G-2 to G-6. Nothing unique. But a G-12 would be. So they went there, much interest for pessenger flights arising. But DB hours are expensive, and limited. (One in the know stated the costs about 4 times the hours of a Merlin). They decide to do a QEC system use the Merlin for the majority of flights, DB for (very) few – and expensive ones? -. I guess the 2-seater Buchon might not be that attractive for potential passengers as a G-12 might be.

Bradburger
It is up for sale on Platinum Fightershttp://www.platinumfighters.com/messerschmitt-bf109g12
Being able to convert easily between Merlin and DB engines may make it a good deal for someone.
Along with the rest of their collection.So it’s interesting that they have purchased the ex Spitfire Ltd Buchon G-AWHE. (As mentioned in a separate thread).
But as someone else said, no doubt getting a feel for the market, but then if the offer is right….
Cheers
Paul
Paul, I thought the same about testing the waters (prices and potential buyers / offers). I am not convinced they are actively trying to sell in earnest. But if the offer is right, why not sell? I guess most planes are for sale if someone is willing to pay enough to convince the owner that he is getting more than he intended. IMHO the price tags for their fleet at Platinum is quite high. But so was the one for Connie Edwards Buchon fleet, and it sold.

Bradburger,
(It would be interesting to know which model of Allison has been fitted to the airframe).
IIRC they use an Allison V-1710-111 as fitted to P-38´s.

Hi Michael;
Many thanks for the photos of the Ar-96. That’s a lovely restoration there. I should make it a mission to go and visit Berlin and see this beauty in the flesh. I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked the lines of the Ar-96….lovely looking aeroplane!
Thanks again!
Best regards;
Steve
Right you are. And a very “modern” one for a trainer regarding the start of the design in 1936, and first flight in 1938. Fully metal, retracting gear. Not that usual in the mid – late 1930´s. BTW Czechoslovakia (Avia and Letov) built them well into the 1950´s, as did the French with their SIPA variants. (No survivor there either, DTMB has some (minor) parts of the crashed one (ex-Salis collection) on a shelf. IIRC it was an accident due to being unable to recover from a flat spin.)
Michael
I forgot to post 2 pics I took of P.2 D-ETAB in 2015.

Be my guest! Bend the thread away! I got the answer I was looking for regarding the badge for 6eme Escadrille (although, do you think I can find a nice hi-res picture of the badge anywhere!) Happy to see lots of pictures of pretty and shiny P.2s….I like them as much as I like Piston Provosts 🙂 …oh! and Arado Ar-96s. Now there’s a type I would like to see fly.
Best regards;
Steve
Can´t help with an airworthy Arado 96 (I´d love to see one flying too). But with pics of one of the 2 static restored ones (or under restoration? in case of the Norwegian one). IIRC there are only parts of a wreck of a 3. example Flugwerk wanted to use as template for a recreation (the project never really got started). The one in the pics is the one at Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin, photos taken in 2011. BTW Arado 96 and Pilatus P.2 have the same engine, Argus constant speed prop assembly and even the same engine mount IIRC. So firewall forward they are (nearly) identical. Enjoy the pics,
Michael
