I think it was mentioned on WIX that the silver example has had a belly landing/gear collapse more recently and is again under repair. I think the green one in Nowotny colours is stored at Manching?

*Edited: the silver 190 has had only one belly landing/gear collapse

Hi everybody, I have been away at my gf´s, no internet access for 2 weeks to relax 😉 . Back to topic: AFAIK the green Flugwerk one (reg. D-FWJS) was (is??) based at Manching. It was built by Flugwerk for a German customer, and flown several (at least 2 or 3 times) by Klaus Plasa out of Manching. Sadly the owner who ordered this a/c deceased before he got his plane delivered or could fly it. There was a rumour it was (is?) up for sale by the family, but nothing official about that. I have no info about who owns it now, but I suspect it is still with the family of the original owner, but that is only my personal guess. It might still be at Manching, but I have no proof of this either. So in fact I can not add any info about it. Regarding the ex-French one that ditched in the Mediterranian, it is at MeierMotors workshop, owned by Hangar10. But as they have several Bf 109 projects under rebuilt there (G-6, G-12 conversion) I would be surprised if the 190 project will be started this year. When I visited MeieMotors in July, I took the pics below. No work has done on it in the meantime IMHO.

Hangar 10 at Usedom offered 2 different “Flight Events” this year, the first one in May, 20 minutes flight in Spitfire / Mustang for 1500 €, a second one in September, 30 minutes for 2700 €.

It seems they will keep it restricted to those “special events”, no regular service intended AFAIK.

I do not know if these pics are of any interest to you, but they might be. http://www.meiermotors.com/index.php/aircraft/dehavilland-d-h-104-dove-d-inka
http://www.dorst-freiburg.de/DeHavillandDove.html There might be some similar / same pics there, as Matthias Dorst is the photographer and webmaster of MeierMotors as well. I hope it helps.

I don’t think any UK registered warbird, carries it’s actual civil registration, although having said that, there may be a few exceptions.
On the other hand, I do think though that French registered warbirds always seem to carry their civil registration.

As do German registered ones. And the black / red / gold (yellow mostly) flag. Normally on a visible area of the rear fuselage, flag often on fin.

Not seen the two Facebook videos, thanks for posting. I get very confused with all these 109Gs at Meier, does anyone know which Werknummer this is?

Is this the fuselage that was built by Craig Charleston?

@Tin Triangle: WNr. is 440738, a G-6 built by WNF, lost over Austria. More or less dataplate reconstruction with new Hartmair fuselage, done by Michael Rinner, Austria. Sold to Hangar 10 late last year, not a Buchon conversion!

@Mike J: No, this fuselage was a newbuilt one by Hartmair Leichtbau, Freising/Germany. Wings reportedly built in Hungary, but no reliable info on that one, only rumours.

I’d like to ask if the 262 is an original or reproduction? Great photos and very interesting. A Natter!

This is an original, the one piloted by Hans-Guido Mutke, flown to Dübendorf/Switzerland on 25.04.1945. In August 1957 the 262 was given to Deutsches Museum by Swiss Authorities. Natter is a replica.

Fully agreed, and most are much cheaper as well. 1 liter (Maß) beer was at this years Munich Oktoberfest between 9.70 € to 10.10 €!! Plain folly, robbery IMHO. If you do not need to buy premium (priced) beer, you can get a crate with 20 x 0.5 bottles for that! That is 10 liters instead of one……

I worked in Munich from 1992 to 2005 (on the Eurofighter Flight Controls Joint Team, but that’s a bit too modern for this forum!), and used to visit both the Deutsches Museum and Flugwerft Schleissheim regularly. Both are fantastic museums, totally recommended. But you need at least half a dozen visits to the city-centre museum before you can claim to have seen it all, the aircraft section alone is a worth most of a day!
    Andy

Though it has been some time since I have been there, I want to second your recommendation. If you only want to just have a overview of the whole museum, even if you just stay at those exhibits you are interested in, to have seen it all you need a week. (Ok, nobody is interested in every single exhibit, but there are literally thousands of them). Much better idea to visit Munich for its several Museums, than for overpriced, overrun and overrated Oktoberfest!

It is well known that ALL warbird owners wish their aeroplanes were Spitfires, so the obvious solution is to return the Texan Buchons to RAF colours ( as in BoB film )

Admittedly, they would be Hispanos, pretending to be Messerschmitts, pretending to be Hurricanes, but it is still quite close

Very interesting ones, Buchons posing as Hurricanes. But, if it is really true that ALL warbird owners wish their aeroplanes were Spitfires, go get a running and airworthy DB 605, and get the best looking Spitfire version ever…. :dev2:

G-AWHE and G-AWHK are the two UK-based aircraft (the desert and BofB movie aircraft respectively).

CF-EML is on its way over at some point to the new owner. I could be wrong, but it may need some work to get going again, especially if it hasn’t flown for a while.

MeierMotors have AT LEAST two, possibly three ‘109 projects on the go at the moment. Buchon D-FMVS is the ‘109G-12 project, plus Jerry Yagen’s example.

There are, of course, the three German aircraft, but they aren’t always flyable at any given time (in fact, I recently saw photos of the G-6 and G-10 with their engines off).

The Connie Edwards stash I doubt will be flying all that quickly, despite the videos!

Daren, they have 4 projects at MeierMotors at the moment. 1. Bf 109 G-2 (or -4, ex-Buchon converted) for Jerry Yagen, waiting for the DB 605, 2. Bf 109 G-6 (ex-M. Rinner, Austria) for Hangar10, waiting for wings (made elswhere, Hungay?), 3. Bf 109 G-12 (ex-Buchon, converted to 2-seater with DB 605) for Hangar 10, 4. Bf 109 E-1 (ex-Condor Legion), for Robs Lamplough. Last info I got is, they intend to get the 3 G´s ready and maidenflight in 2015. The E will take some more time, lots of work, the 3 G´s have priority.
Of the 3 Messerschmitt Flugmuseum ones, the G-4 is airworthy, G-10 waiting for its engine, rest is ready, G-6 under main overhaul.

    Michael

P.S.: Mike, the Belgium one was converted to a high fin and rudder type, reportedly airworthy, but not flown at all AFAIK.

Slightly OT, but I’ve rather lost track of the situation with the Russell Group 109E. Is there any recent news on it, or is it still being offered for sale? The Hurricane went to Australia, but got smashed up in transit and is now under repair, but I can’t remember hearing anything about the 109E recently.

As of today, still “pending” :

That must have been a difficult one to explain by those responsible. I would imagine that a rapid redeployment to the Russian front probably followed?

My father told me a similar story. When he was a “Flakhelfer” (boys in 9. or 10. class) helping at a 8,8 cm Flak unit situated around Wesseling (south of Cologne, petrol refinery), their commanding officer was a Hauptmann der Reserve, (Territorial Captain). One day there was a certain area and height restricted, due to nightfighter operation. When that night there were engines to be heard, this Captain ordered to shoot at that plane anyway. It was a Ju 88 nightfighter, no survivors. The Captain had to go to his Batallion commander, a colonel, in full regalia next morning, and was degraded and sent to the eastern front the same day for disobeing standing orders. At least that is what my father told me.

Yes I had read that thanks. ‘6 Buchons to Europe’ but I think that even a ARCO or a Meir Motors would be pushed to restore that lot!
    mmitch.

Well, it all depends on the timeframe chosen by the owner. If one is fully restored, sold, another one restored after the sale it would be possible for either of them.
I doubt there is a market for all of them at the same time.

Great stuff Redvanner! I don’t know how the Germans do it, prang…fix…fly…in seemingly no time. Oh yes, I remember…resources! If you have the ear of anyone on the team, can you ask if they could insert a P in P of the pilot working the pedals on take off and landing? A challenge I know, but it would be interesting to see.

I am sorry, but I do not have any connection with those guys at Messerschmitt Flugmuseum whatsoever. I just searched the net for something else, and found the video clips. Regarding the fast repair I can only guess. They do have very good connections, prop shop around the corner (AFAIK MT), do engine repair in-house (Siggi Knoll), a very capable fuselage and wing producer nearby (Hartmair), and a very enthusiastic and professional team. They also have the other 2 109´s under repair, so they might just have used parts and pieces originally intended for one of the others. But this is purely guesswork on my side.
