I am just wondering why you think that “FF” in the Production Schedule section ever meant “First Flight”?

In the sheet you posted in post 217, it says “First Flights (FF) & Test completion”. So it makes sense to interpret FF, that way.

France is looking to field 150 Scalp Navals on Fremm frigates starting in 2014, with the 50 submarine-launched weapons due to come into inventory in 2017.

The B-52 can’t fly in non-permissive air space though, which is a pretty limiting factor for your tactical air support.

Is “non-permissive air space” the new buzz word for the stealth crowd? It popped up in quite some threads in recent time.

What about making the airspace permissive using other (cheaper) solutions than the ΓΌber stealth fighters (nobody can afford) able to fly around SA-XX ?

If the airspace would be SO non-permissive, whats the point of keeping the B52 till 2040 in the first place?

    Interesting topic!

what about another classic produced in numbers: mirage 3/5 series?

I guess the Belgian ones come from Charleroi as well.

EDIT:oops, I only see now that Distiller mentioned the Australian mirages already.

    targeting?

    How will a F15C target the AIM-9X?

Has it to fly within visual range and target via the HUD; or will it receive some coordinates over the network and the missile seeker takes over once close to target coords?

This could be a photographic artifact, especially since the Viper in the back appears to have no such glint/tint on its canopy.

Do you have any more pictures to corraborate, this is not a one off.

it can happen even on the same viper:

I am surprised nobody mentioned the A-37 yet! Regarding FOD grids on western aircraft, it’s the first plane i thought about. However I don’t know about it’s rough field performace…

IMHO this forum could use a Stalin Purge but that’s just me.

i agree! russian fanboys to the internet gulag, US fanboys to the internet guantanamao … however, purge brings nothing if the offenders know how to use a proxy… it think ice cold purge off unrelated posts would be better… for the sake of enjoyable threads…

PS: if somebody off the mods will apply this, this post can be deleted as well πŸ˜‰

    re missle defenses

Russia and IMHO, every country is better off putting the resources in more sexy planes, SSBNs/ICBMs, and/or whats really needed…

I consider as well that a nation wide ballistic missle defense is a complete waste of resources. There is no point of having one, as ICBM’s are a deterrent. The moment you have to use ICBM’s or have to defend against them, you have already lost. I love MAD, it worked, works and will work…

Even the logic to just defend against the 1-2…10 “rouge” missles (in order to save your capital city for example) is flawed. The resources needed to field a 10 nuclear tipped ICBM force are so enorm! Once you have the resources, your society is better off with spending them for other stuff, or going for the ICBMs using them as deterrent. Back to the above.

A lot of dammage can be done by a bunch of motivated and creative poeple using other weapons than ICBMs; just using less than 1/10th of the resources needed for a “form scratch nuclear tipped ICBM program”.

ABM is just an expensive way of generating a false feeling of security.

    Su-25 damaged in S. Ossetia
    http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/1239/su25so111jh8.th.jpg

    nice find!
It looks like an explosion inside the engine. I would expect from a MANPAD with proximity fuse more dammage on the wing and stores. Or was it AAA and the engine disintegrated causing the dammage?
