PEB75, affirmative. Dug to no avail!
I’ve never seen the purported Japanese roundel either. Will do some digging myself…
Also, the Chinese T-6 is indeed civilian. I am trying to track down some info on it, but I do remember that it belonged to some civil service organization, and was photographed getting ready to deliver a shipment of vaccine to some remote area…
PEB, I have seen the Spanish Veloz, and wonder if it indeed wore the standard red-yellow-red or red-yellow-purple markings. The old photographic emulsion may have made them look all the same color…
PEB, it may indeed have been a unit insignia. But it has a very old pedigree, and does have national significance!
Gerard, looks to me like the image before the Buffalo is an Airspeed Oxford.
Gerard, the Serbian insignia has been around for a long time. Its origin lies with Saint Sava, the first Archbishop of the Serbian Church and the patron saint of the Serbs, who based his design on the Byzantine original. The phrase “Only Unity Saves the Serbs” is traditionally attributed to him. He is said to have uttered it to urge the Serbian people to declare national autonomy and resist domination by the Roman Catholic Church. Saint Sava lived from 1174-1236 AD..
Oleniko, the Bolivian Nielsen & Winther is amazing! The colors for the roundel undoubtedly came from the Danish national colors!
Thanks much Chris- I knew you would have the answer! You always do.
Very interesting Qatar Twin Otter, Gerard!
I got confirmation from Dan Hagedorn earlier today that Honduras never used five stars on their wing insignia.
I have contacted perhaps the leading authority in the world on Central American, South American, and Caribbean air forces about our Honduran mystery- Dan Hagedorn. Will let you know what he has to say on the subject asap!
Agreed. I don’t know that I have ever seen five stars on the wings. Will keep looking, though!
I think that the red in the insignia on the Ki-54 is too large to have a white bottom component…
PEB75, not sure of the scale. But they’re pretty big! Wing spans are about 11 inches.
