Agreed
Logan Hartke, Thank you. You were dead on with your explanation of the criteria for inclusion of photos to this thread. I am just now getting back in my chair (from the floor) after Quadbikes comment:eek:. For his information, the Syrians are probably the most secretive of any air force in the world and as Logan said “very under-represented” in aviation photography to say the least. I don’t think that Quadbike really grasps the magnitude of what he is looking at here. A SYRIAN MIG-29!!!!! and apparently, not some photo-shopped phony either…..

You’ve got my vote, too. By the way, what the hell is a “TurboKat”?
A Couple of Ugandan Aircraft
Anyone, any recent photos of Ugandan Defence Forces, particularly L-39/Migs.?
I’ll post some more later.
Nepalese Il-14
I wouldn’t guess two tone (even looking at Chris’ post)… both phots posted are extremely hi-contrast, and based on my experience with the older negs (good old Ortho and Pan film), that bird is overall white.
The scans come from publications (bummer really, since a helluva lot of detail and tone can and is lost due to half-toning of what may have been a poorly exposed/printed shot), it is almost impossible based on these pics (I have tried) to get a different read on the Nepalese markings (blue outline/red centre).
At best its a toss up between a blue or red cheat line, black titles… due to the re-re-re-scanned nature of the prints, the blue and black are simply showing up as near-identical tones.
Thanks. After looking at the close-up I have, I agree that it’s not two-tone. The registration looks to be the same color as the cheat line and the anti-glare panel, but this could be deceptive, because so does the red in the flag on the fuselage. Think I’ll go with a red registration, based on what I’ve seen in other images of Nepalese aircraft. I do also notice three characters running down the front of the flag. I’ve never seen these before on any other aircraft. Does anybody know for certain what they say? I looked up the Nepali alphabet, and came up with: न प ल. This is “na-pa-la” phonetically, which sounds suspiciously like “Nepal”.

I have several. I’ll post them soon.

Full pix of Mi-4 Nepal
Chris
Thanks for the great picture! Looks two tone to me, perhaps white top with light/medium grey under cheat line? I also presume the cheat line is an extension of the black anti-glare panel. Black registration on fuselage, red-white-red tail rotor striping, black lower/metal upper main rotor blades with yellow tips. Just guesses on my part, though. I would love to have more details.
Nepal Mi-4
Anybody have info on this Nepalese Mi-4, such as color scheme? Did it have a fin flash? Thanks!
PNG UH-1H
Do you have pics of their UH-1H?
Thanks
Here it is.
Very Interesting- Thanks!
This is SAFTECH-4 ex XG448
see here http://www.filton.flyer.co.uk/bristol/prod192.html
SAFTECH-2 was Meteor WA880
SAFTECH-8 was Javelin XH793
picture here with Singapore markings http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1806&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=25
Every time I think there’s nothing left to discover, something wonderfully odd like this comes along. Thanks for the great info! Yet another model to build!
PNG Rudder Insignia
Does anybody have a clear image of the tail insignia worn by some PNG aircraft? It’s typically worn on the rudder, a gold/yellow bird on a green band. I’ve attached a photo of a PNG C-47 for reference. Thanks!
Correct
Bristol Belvedere…
I didn’t think Singapore ever operated them (I could be wrong) – perhaps just a transfer from RAF for use as an instructional airframe.
That is correct. You can see desks in the background, which makes it likely that the area was used to train maintenance personnel. The fuselage registration “SAF-TECH3” also indicates such. The Meteor looks like a former target tug, judging from the black/yellow striping on the bottom surfaces. It sure would make an interesting model- which is just why I plan to build one!
Noted and Corrected
Nope.. The Pilans are from Guatemala
Thanks. I made the correction.
…and back to small air forces once again…
Singapore Meteor F.8, Guatemala Pilans.
Affirmative
Gkozak,
Your previous contributions have been very much appreciated by all of us, I am sure, but keep the USAF out of this thread. There are literally hundreds of unique “one-off” camo schemes and oddities that could be included here from the worlds large air forces if we went in that direction. Why start a trend that would inevitably morph this thread into something other than “SMALL AIR FORCES”??? As far as I know there is only one photo thread specifically dealing with Small air forces on the net and it would be a shame to have it dilluted with hundreds of USAF pics.
Much as I like that photo, it does not belong here.

Yeah, you’re right. Thanks for the reminder. I deleted the message.
