So will they be going back to the traditional RAF/RCAF ranks?
Serial Numbers
Lee, the A619622 is the serial number of our engine and is now fitted into WD826 but originally came from WJ109.
We also have another 74 block with the serial numbers AN639051 and NO46428. We were wondering if you knew the origin of this engine also as one day we are anticipating it will be our spare!
Regards,
Stewart.
Thanks for that bent wing bomber i’ll let you now how it goes. Might be a while until we fire it up as the engine is inhibited and we have a few other tasks to be getting on with in the meantime!
Lee I will get back to you on wednesday with a serial number!!!
Thans again,
Stewart.
Looking on your website there are numerous statements claiming ‘she will fly again’ Is this a realistic aim and if so what is happening and what is required to make this a reality?
Thank you, what aircraft had these engines fitted?
Although the centr section came from a Hastings the outer wings and the outer wing on the Queen Mary are original Halifax outer wings and were found in a scrap yard still in their crates.
I disagree, the aircraft may belong to the RAF on paper but Joint Force Harrier is now a 50 50 RN/RAF organisation which includes aircrew and engineers on the sqns and in the bays. We even have RN personnel as chefs, writers, medics etc. It is worth noting that The Fleet Air Arm also does operate the only ‘Dark Blue’ single service squadron within JFH (as 1 and 4 are mixed service) and has proved its worth and capability on the many Herrick deployments.
and the Fleet Arm don’t fly real aircraft anymore
Is the Harrier GR9A not a real aircraft?
They are parked outside Newcomen Hangar, HMS Sultan, Gosport.
hey also have a former IV sqn GR3 there and a SHAR!
If its any consolation the commontators in Australia are just as bad. I was at the RAAF Amberley Airshow last year. The Vampire was flying and the commontator was talking about how it’s cetrifugal compressor was employed as the LPC1 on the brand new C17!!!!!!! Bit worrying when you can see the LPC1 Fan Blades!!!!!!!
The worst comentry ever I believe is the Frenchman who does flying legends talking about the pilot through his display as if he was doing it and those awful staged questions! Airshow commentry is all the same stories jokes etc every show, every year! I agree ditch the commentators except for announcements etc.
There has been two mentions now on this thread about getting a third Wellington back on its feet. Although there is a substantal wing section at EK are there any other airframes in existance?
The future of Wittering was secured a couple of years ago when there was a reshuffle. 20 Squadron became part of Cottesmore and is only a lodger unit at Wittering. The old Station Commander (Who was a pilot) was replaced by Group Catain Atherton and she was from the Supply and Logistics branch. The base has now really become a logistics hub as 2MT Sqn and 3 Regiment Sqn moved in as well as a few other units. There were plans to move 20 up the road but there is a serious lack of space so believe this has been shelved.
The other factor determining Witterings clousure is the fact the land that the airfield occupies belongs to the Burghley Estate and the MoD would have to return it to the condition it was in when they commandeered the land, which would prove too expensive.
RAAF Amberleys Boston
The Boston is still there, I saw it on the 4th October this year whilst the airshow was on. Its kept in a historic airframes hangar and there is a Canberra and Mirage in there as well as a couple of other airframes.
Also when I was out there the curator of the museum, ‘Joe’ said that there were quite a few naval wrecks off the coast at Hal Far bu I cannot remember the types. He also said there was a Mosquito out there sometimes and known only by local divers however I imagine not much would remain.
