I guess the nobody in the DND has ever heard of a Stirling engine or AIP I guess.

And I guess you’ve never heard of the ice cap….(and not the one offered by Timmies 😉 )

Normal complement 36:
General-purpose wing:
2 x 12 fighter/attack fixed-wing (10+2 each to cover tanking duties)
1 x 3 AEW fixed-wing or helo
1 x 9 ASW/SAR helos

Surge complement 40:
Strike wing:
3 x 10 fighter/attack fixed-wing (0r 2 x 15 fighter/attack fixed-wing)
1 x 4 AEW fixed-wing or helo
1 x 6 ASW/SAR helos

Escort wing:
2 x 12 fighter/attack fixed-wing (10+2 to cover tanking duties)
1 x 4 AEW fixed-wing or helo
1 x 12 ASW/SAR helos

If you are flying Super Hornets then at least 1/4 of them are fitted for EA-18G kit (as are half the Aussie F/A-18F buy), and at least one aircraft per strike is carrying the ECM pods.

As the man said simple math kills this idea deader then a doorknob,I tend to almost a loony pro carrier fanboy but even I know when idea is just plain bug house crazy .

One of the reasons I postulated a 45,000 tonnne CATOBAR carrier is simply with a bit a effort I can probably (with a bit of effort ) carry roughly 36-40 A/C . I just need to provide air cover for a task force or a limited strike capability .I don’t envisage leading a a one carrier assault on the Kola Peninsula ! 😀

Remember the little 1,000 ton Flower class corvettes that did precisely that, back in WWII? There were times when the weather was so bad that the big fleet destroyers had to turn back, but the corvettes were able to keep going.

Seakeeping is about a lot more than just size.

All too true , Seakeeping is also about being able to operate in those sea states. I was once told by one Corvette sailor about being the only escorts that could keep up with a convoy during the worst weather.
“Although god know what we’d been able to do if a U-Boat attacked!Just about very one of had injured in one fashion or anther during the voyage .I didn’t brake anything but was so badly bruised I could barely move .”

A corvette in North Atlantic waters say in mid winter ? Sorry no sale I don’t really know anyone that I hate that much that I could do that to.

I’ve been a reader of Warship IFR for years and tend to agree with you that as of late they’ve be going over the top a bit. (Actually some them need their shots)
On the other hand the number of air force types I’ve observed, some of them fairly senior and By this I mean USAF ,RAF and CDN. Air force .
And this may just be purely luck of the draw but an awful lot seem to be to use that quaint British phrase absolute ******s.I some times wonder if it’s some effect of light blue dyes or something.
I have also met some truly brilliant AF types as well they just seem to be in minority . Airpower is not a panacea (and according to my spell check programme it’s also not a word.)it is just one facet of military affairs .You can not win a war purely by air power . I heard so much about how Airpower(tm.) was going to solve all the problems in the Balkans by instituting a No- Fly zone. I t didn’t But I saw a lot people wrap their hopes up in that one.
I really do have to pick up the latest issue!!
This beginning to ramble so that tells me it’s probably time for bed.

If they want to carry out operations they need LHAs and transports, not so much escorts.

I suspect the major reason is as much about domestic political consumption much as anything else . For much of Canada’s history ,Canadian foreign policy can described as the victory of symbolism over style .
In other words the Government of the day wants to look good, I’m actually surprised the PM wasn’t there to see them off.I hate to say but more and more our politicians view the Canadian Forces as a uniformed PR firm.

Brazillian NAVAIR improvments

That’s just awesome !
I’d love to see those with an EriEye operating from small carriers,
that together with a handful of fighters will be a painfully hard nut to crack.

As I said earlier this is brilliant method of improving your abilities a little bit at time. does anyone want bet that the next step will newer fighters and then followed a few years later by perhaps a new carrier?

S 2 launch without a catapult?

Can S 2 Tracker take off a small carrier w/o catapult ?
(but with ski-jump)

They would not even need the ski-jump,This was done aboard the HMCS Bonaventure on occasion .

What the Brazilians are doing is brilliant for very little money ,very carefully invested . They are producing a quantum leap in their capabilities .
