Kalafrana
The image of the burning Sunderland I, L2164, was on 10/3/41, at Kalafrana. I’ll look through the others. It is the image at the bottom Left (unfortunately turned sideways for the scanning). I see there are a series of these images, this and different Sunderlands, marked Malta or Kalafrana. Sinking, broken wings etc. I did not know your Kalafrana interest when I scanned these…
The one at top Right is in St Paul’s bay (Malta?)after attack by Bf-109s. L2164 was 228 Sqn, I think, 10/3/41.
I have 17 different photos of Sunderlands that have crashed, been shot down, set afire, half sunk, or otherwise wrecked. Most have numbers and details on back.Not sure what you need, or are trying to assemble.. PM me.
Edo history
Martin you have a wonderful site. I especially like the pre-WWII EDO history. If you are researching the history of EDO for a possible book, I have a great deal of B. V. Korvin-Kroukovsky’s perosnal archives. These include numerous boxes/file drawers of Original blueprints. files & original letters, of correspondence with Earle D. Osborne BEFORE they started EDO (discussing the markets, profitable designs, goals, potential etc) as well as when they started & operated EDO, and follows through with B.V.K-K’s original drawings in pencil and ink for a wide variety of flying boats and different types of floats (some designs that were famous and others that were never produced) with all his handwritten notes/letters betweeen him and Osborne. and from EDO. All the way back to when he was an important aviation designer (of flying boats)to the Russian military, circa 1918/19. All kinds of history between K-K and EDO and lots of orignal official documentation, many of his personal photos, etc. If you PM me with your regular email address, OR-email me, via the contact email on my website (that is linked in my signature, below, we can probably have some interesting discussion’s.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Your information increases my enjoyment of these two instruments, considerably.
As to the “should read” corrections of my typed information, it raises a distressing alarm in the realities of getting “older.” I actually gathered the information marked on the instruments, using BOTH my eyeglasses AND a magnifying glass! And STILL got some markings wrong. 😮
So I suppose it is a little too late to go down to the scrap yard, buy some aluminum sheets and start buillding a Sunderland “restoration” around my Airspeed. 😉
These items are always available for trade for almost ANY interesting WWI aero bits-which is more my area of interest. Feel free to enjoy a sampling of images of them on my webisite, as per in my signature, below. Meanwhile, I can now smile more broadly (as if I’m part of the “club”) when I visit Kermit’s Sunderland, which is “only” a seven hours drive. Thanks, Mates.

Hello all;
I have been posting on this list, for months, requesting to purchase front and rear FN turrets (preferably) suitable for 1943 Lancaster. The rear turret would be the 4x
.303 machine gun version. This is a SERIOUS request and am willing to pay a FAIR price. Not looking for a bargain..Looking to obtain (and pay for) them in best condition possible/available. and complete, as possible. Guns or replica guns not critical, if that presents a problem for you. Any leads, contacts appreciated.
Feel free to email at: barnstormer1@cox.net. All information kept confidential.
Hi Ben; Emailed you the high res, and also this one, too.(without the “watermarks”)
T.7 662
Thank You, Greg;
Can’t really miss it from THAT description, can I?
Here is the low res forum shot, plus an image of the text on back.
Ben,
I will gladly email you a high res image (without “the Raceway Collection” text overlay.) Just send me your email address to MY email address, as it appears on my website-as in my signature below. Hope I post this correctly. It is 1:43 A.M. here and wanted to get this off before shutting down for the night.
Can also send another image of 3/4 front view, port side
600dpi/306Kb or
1200dpi/900Kb
Hello Ben;
Have approx. 2,500 Meteor photos in the files. But they are sorted by type, not reg, or serial or mil. numbers. Can you tell me what Model Meteor it is? F1,3,4,8 etc T.1, NF-1-.11.12. 12 etc series FR-9,10,11 etc? Would prefer to sort a couple of hundred, rather than a couple of thousand. Let me know..amd I’ll be glad to look and scan if I have it..
I think we can safely predict that the above photos will be go to ‘Z3M’ or ‘Sudek13’, presumed to be the same operation and well up the ‘Forbes list’.
Never knowingly outbid. 🙂
Mark
As an avid aviation photo & negative collector, of 37 years, from the PRE-Internet Era, you certainly have my curiosity meter fully lit, Mark. Is there any chance of letting us know who this person/these persons are?
I don’t hoard them-I share them, and trade them too..(well at least “most” of them) 🙂
WG777 was also natural metal and I was wondering when it got painted dark blue, as it is now at Cosford, and why?
Did it ever fly in this colour, or was this a scheme applied after it was grounded and initially part of the RAF Finningly collection?:confused:
Earliest photo I have of WG777 in dark blue (b&w photo) is 1965
WG774 in 1966 for you..
