Hi All,
Thanks for the replies and comments, looks like it’s going to be another ‘ open ended ‘ whirlwind mystery.
Until finding the link I posted, I had always had the thoughts of some whirlwinds just having ‘intruder’ type black undersides, and they had been seen in ’43.
Now I have the thoughts of some overall black in ’41 as well.
I presume it would washable matt black distemper, for example like that used by 82 Sqn on their blenheim intruders in ’41.
I suppose if it was easy researching the whirlwind, i probably wouldn’t enjoy it so much :diablo:

Hi

But still good a memorial was done.

Hi
I can only suggest you post this on the forum linked to below.
There are many experts and authors there, who will no doubt be able to answer your questions.
The exact date of when he was shot down will help also

I only knew there was a training unit near paris, didn’t know they flew operationally on the western front.
There is/was a large book out, it can go for a large price, but appears it may have been reprinted ?

thanks for the ideas, It is definitely a 1940’s photo, not a film prop, unless it was in ww2.

Hi
Thanks for re posting the photo, I am getting computer problems today, I think there is a loose nut in front of the screen 😀 …me… :)
My other problem is the a/c although it seems to me like a typhoon, but it has a short nose.
But I don’t know what else has wing cannon (?) like that apart from a Hurricane ? but the wings look odd.
any suggestions on a/c type welcome
cheers

Hi
Thanks for all the comments,
As to where it’s from, not sure, it is in the background of a badly captioned e bay photo, so I don’t know if it is allied or axis.
If i win, i can scan it better and re post it here, naturally as i am bidding i don’t really want to post the link.
My interest was the stripes, but as you say they could be smudges
