That would be fantastic! 8 SSBNs in 8 years, the Russian navy will still be a great naval power.

Bellona says that Russia ever produced 248 nuke subs, 196 of which have been decommissioned. So, 52 left in commission, my guess:

4 Typhoons, incl. TK 13 in reserve. TK 17, 20 and 208 are operable
    6 Delta IV, K 64 scrapped in 2001-2, K 117 and 18 in repair.
7-8 Delta III, incl. K 490 Voskresensk in reserve. K44 Ryazan in repair.
    10 Oscar IIs, only 5 operable, K132, 119, 442, 266 and 526.
    13 Akulas, K 284 Puma retired in 1995. K263, 322, 480, and 391 in reserve
3 Sierras, K 239 Karp retired in 1998, only K 276 active, rest in repair
5 Victor IIIs, incl. B 292 Perm in repair
    3-4 other research: Yankees, Beluga

Another delay for both Dolgorukiy and Severodvinsk for another year. Ivanov said a couple weeks ago that Bulava and its carriers will be fully ready in 2008, and perhaps that’s the most realistic estimate.

Russian Navy has decided to retain 3 Typhoons, and scrap the other 3: When TK 202 finished scrapping in early this year, TK 12 Simbirsk began its turn, and hull no 712 TK 13 will follow later. Whether the Arkhangelsk and Severstal will undergo modernization to 4th gen sub like Donskoy is still a question, but given the Russia’s rapid economic growth fuelled with the rising oil price, coupled with the surge in forex reserve and stabilization funds, and the recent trend to Svatoy Giorgy Pobedonosets, Kostroma, Pantera, and Ryazan, that seems likely.

Last year there was rumors that Russia had disbanded the Typhoon flotilla, the source was the sacked admiral who was responsible for the sinking of K 159. The Russian Navy spokesman was quickly to deny the rumor and saying that all the operable Typhoons continue to serve the country.
