Interesting photo- this is the same type of control station as on the recently built Chinese Zubrs. The factory is in Simferopol, now part of the Russian Federation.

That would be cool to drive :applause:

What is interesting about that list is the 052B and the 051C, two orpan types in the China Navy Orbat.

Neither were continued beyond the first two built, my guess is the 052B was intended as a more general purpose type but the 054 was found to be a more cost effective solution in that role. The 051C was probably a low risk hedge in case the 052C was not a success, whilst the 052C had an advanced CODOG propulsion, domestic radar and missiles the 051C used the Russian radars, missiles and a domestic steam plant.

Considering the success of the 054 and the 052C with both being made in reasonable numbers and then further developed into more advanced variants the 051C and the 052B will be a foot note in China navy history.

052B was a platform test vehicle for 052C, and possibly a fall back option. Also, together with 4 sovremenny, that pair gave PLAN enough ships to give each fleet 2 ships with some area coverage (relative to HQ7), prior to full scale production of 054.
051C: Chinese probably learned from RIF-M. And with said 6 Shtil equipped ships would give a core of ships that could protect Liaoning even absent of any 052C and/or 054/A

No such thing as ‘Arabian Gulf’ 😛

    Arabian Gulf may refer to:
The Persian Gulf, since the 1960s controversially referred to as the Arabian Gulf or The Gulf by some Arab countries
The Sinus Arabicus, a historical name for the Red Sea, in literary works from ancient times to the 19th Century
The Arab Gulf (Arabic Khalij el-Arab), a large bay near Alexandria, Egypt, also known as the Arabs Gulf, Arabs’ Gulf, or Arab’s Gulf

The Arabian Sea is a region of the northern Indian Ocean bounded on the north by Pakistan and Iran, on the southwest by northeastern Somalia, on the east by India, and on the west by the Arabian Peninsula. Some of the ancient names of this body of water include Sindhu Sagar (meaning “Sea of Sindh” in Sanskrit) and Erythraean Sea

Samuel Beckett handed over to Irish naval service

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-devon-27164975

I’ve been following his ship’s progress for a while. Not mentioned in the article is that she is the first of two confirmed ships to be built with an option for a third. I think she’s a lovely looking ship too if I do say so myself.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babcock_Marine_OPV

She has nice lines, almost like a destroyer (e.g. Adams, Coontz, Farragut), you could well picture a hull with similar lines but 1,5 or 2 x greater displacement: in Dutch we would say “stoer”.

Maybe, maybe not. But it is one of the proposed destroyers no doubt.

And that looks to me like a new Gorshkov class next to it.

The model was discussed in terms of being a cruiser, but I don’t know it that is in anyway the official terminology for it.

Might be the future destroyer with the RuN.

The above pic reminded me of pic of models we’ve seen here before just under a year ago: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?122230-Russian-Navy-Thread-2&p=1990258#post1990258

The hull shape appears similar, as does the configuration of the stacks.

First medium tanker laid down since fall of USSR (for the navy).

Modern day equivalent of Dubna class, which has very similar dimensions and displacement and speed?

1982 invasion of South Georgia aka Battle of Grytviken, part of the Falklands War

    Date: 3 April 1982
    Location: Grytviken, South Georgia Island
Result: Argentine victory; Argentina seizes control of Leith Harbour and Grytviken.
    Belligerents: United Kingdom Argentina
Commanders and leaders: Keith Paul Mills Carlos Trombetta
    Strength 22 marines v. 1 Antarctic Survey ship w. 60 marines, 1 corvette, 1 Antarctic Survey ship
Casualties and losses: 1 wounded, 22 prisoners / 3 killed, 9 wounded, 1 corvette damaged, 1 helicopter shot down

The invasion of South Georgia (Spanish: Operación Georgias), also known as the Battle of Grytviken, took place on 3 April 1982, when Argentine naval forces seized control of the east coast of South Georgia after overpowering a small group of Royal Marines at Grytviken. During this engagement, ARA Guerrico was hit by small arms fire and 84 mm Carl Gustav anti-tank shells from a distance of 550 metres. More than 200 small arms rounds hit the corvette. The shooting killed one seaman and injured five others, damaging electrical cables, the 40 mm gun, one Exocet launcher and the 100 mm mounting. ARA Guerrico lost 50% of her firepower due to combat damage and had to spend three days in dry dock for repairs.

They could have send police with court search warrant or seal the office with court order. What they have done is political mobbing on a pure commercial entity. I assume it is basic, but may be you can point some local laws which justifies that action?

It is not a matter of whether I or you can point it out, but whether their law allows it. Only if it doesn’t could one be justified to say they are not playing by the rules. (you have to know the rules to detect any infraction on them).
A good starting point to look would be any official statement about the event: how did their government justify their action?

    See http://www.thelocal.se/20140415/defence-expert-baffled-by-kockums-raid

“This is very strange, very unusual,” Gunnar Hult, a professor at Sweden’s National Defence College, told The Local on Tuesday.

Hult, who specializes in military technology at the defence college, assumed that the military was looking for drawings or design details.

He explained that some parts of Kockums’ design belong to the Swedish military. Those designs were then rented to contractors, but with the ownership structure up in the air the military might have felt compelled to confiscate certain items.

“The kind of things they install into the web platforms. Encrypted,” he explained. “This is pretty classified stuff.”

FMV confirmed that the A26 submarine model is owned in full by the Swedish state.

Hult added that the actions of the FMV, which is tasked with delivering defence logistics to Sweden’s Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten), were legally murky.

“I suppose if they say it refers to state interests then they’ll be able to get away with it,” he said.

“And with a neighbour to the east that we’ve never really trusted, we’ve developed our own submarines rather than buying them,” he explained.

If it was matter of national security then why they allowed at first place to sell it to a German company?
What is the national emergency which can justify “Malmo operation”?
How a Govt can earn respect if they don´t play by the rules? And even worst, cooked up reason to break rule 😮

What rules, specifically? Are you fully versed in Swedish national law?

Saab Moves Closer To Takeover of ThyssenKrupp Sub Building Operations in Sweden

tension peaked on April 8 when an FMV transport convoy, under military escort, raided TKMS’ south coast headquarters in Malmö to secure all A26-related technologies under the $100 million Swedish state-funded A26 submarine program that is run by TKMS but which was voided when the MoD revoked its contract with ThyssenKrupp in February.

    Wow.
