Scrap? The article talks about selling! (Good luck to them with that 😉
Coincidence?
Vice Adm. Sergey Hayduk, the commander of the Ukrainian Navy
Гайдук > Gayduk / Gaiduck, Ukraine corvette Project 58250
Why would they, considering their own designs (P15A, P17). It is possible that some of the later planned russian 11356Ms would be diverted to India and get machinery there, given that Ukraine is not delivering GTu to Russia anymore.
By the time a carrier is actually ordered, safe money is it will look quite different.
It is just a Krylov Institute model. AFAIK there is no official program.
what is so weird about it?
It might get toned down in its final from what we see now, but the mast most likely will retain its height which is not much different from what we see on pr.1144 or pr.1164. But unlike these two, the new model will not be having the penalty of radar units weighting in excess tons in weight.

The beam reported is 20m which I think is on the lower side. To me the beam is definitely over 20m and probably around 24m?
Need we remind….

This purportedly is a destroyer. But it shares many design feutures with the above ‘cruiser’
Was thinking the same….cant wait to see what they come up with as a cruiser concept!. Clearly mad putting all that superstructure sail-area that high up in the design….any serious wind over the beam will make that an entertaining hull to crew!.
The other thing thats interesting, if this is an officially sanctioned design and not just some naval architects unsolicited occupational meanderings, is what it suggests in terms of Russian operational planning. You build in a tail foremast for one reason and one only…to push back the horizon for your sensors. If you are planning to operate under friendly airborne radar coverage thats not so important….see current and projected US designs. Given the years of repeated noise about Russian carrier ambitions, and models with E-2 clones parked liberally about the deck, this design is more indicative of a unit intended to operate with a far lesser reliance on that offboard support.
Having said that (and making sense imho), how do you view/read the carrier model put forward by the Krylov Institute?
Those blue containers reminded me of some other pics.

Indeed, the navy recognition article mentioned a larger design, depicted with 2x Club-K Container Missile Systems

Pella Shipyard Arctic Patrol Ship
Also during IMDS 2015 maritime defense show, Pella Shipyard based in Leningrad unveiled an Arctic Patrol Ship. No order has been placed yet, but it is worth mentioning because the design of this 6,800 tons / 114 meters long patrol vessel with ice breaking capabilities features a large helipad and space at the stern for two Club-K Container Missile Systems.

Looks like the navy ordered 4 project 03182 small ocean tankers. This is a ship with 3500 ton full displacement, 1500 ton deadweight, strengthened ice hull; two will be built @ Zelenodolsk, and 2 @ the Vostochanya Verf in Vladivostok.
Project 03182 Small Arctic Sea Tanker is designed as a “multi-purpose vessel with ice-breaking capacities for the transportation of liquid and dry cargo, people and helicopters (including unmanned aerial vehicles) as well as rescue operations in the Arctic zones.” In addition to the reception, storage, transport and transfer of liquid cargo, the Project 03182 tanker is designed for the supply of barrels, boxes, pallets, containers, etc .; It is fitted with tanks for fresh water, wastewater, sewage, dry garbage and food waste; Its missions will include patrol and rescue duty in the areas of shipping, fisheries, offshore oil and gas fields; Search and assisting ships in distress; technical support in the areas dangerous for navigation; maintenance of transport operations in ports; removal from the shoals and reefs of vessels in distress; pumping water from flooded compartments and emergency towing vessels and objects to shelter area, including in the ice; perform the functions of the fire ship.

I know – in fact, I believe so did the Pr.11780 concept, which would’ve been three times Ivan Rogov’s size. Still doesn’t strike me as all that practical or smart.
Agree :highly_amused:

It certainly has the typical Krylov element of lunacy – beaching a 24000 ton high value asset?
Ivan Rogov was 14,060 tons full load and had bow doors….

It isn’t reliable at all that’s why it has to attack Libya on behalf of Arab league that created high oil prices for EU. Now Qatar did awarded them with Rafale but its for past services and airline slots. . All past customers from UAE and India are dithering on orders and the orders that will come are not as profitable.
and it still cant sell Mistral without Russia permission. No customer will pay for it. and with size of Ruaf increasing it can sink them anywhere in the world as it has Russian technology. when Russia create alternative to Swift system than no one will bank at French banks.I fully expect Russia to sell weopons/nuclear tech to both sides starting from Iraq-Iran all the way to Egypt and Saudi. this is called high credibility.
Fremm to Morocco, Egypt, Greece…
In the past two decades, DCNS has had considerable success in both reviving old markets and opening new ones. In 1994, DCNS won contracts to sell three Agosta 90B diesel-electric attack submarines (SSKs) to Pakistan. In 1997, DCNS contracted to sell two vessels of its new Scorpène-class to Chile, the second of which was delivered in 2007. [17] Not only was DCNS able to break into HDW’s market (Chile had been employing German Type 209 boats), but more importantly, the French company was able to sell a new submarine design, even though the Chilean Navy had initially issued the tender for a proven submarine class. In 2002, Malaysia ordered two Scorpène units as well, along with an ex-French Navy Agosta boat for training purposes. DCNS has also received orders for several Scorpène-class vessels from both India and Brazil, with substantial technology transfer provisions.
Trust me, when I look into smaller vessel there’s a lot more.
(you did note the smiley?)
its not wasting as during negotiation they can learn a lot. and especially training and joint manufacture of ships but on top of that france as reliable supplier in world in doubt. France is getting small drip drip orders not big orders. this will eliminate future competition for Russia exports.
To reliable customers, France has Always been a reliable supplier 😉
Project “Priboy”
– 14,000t displacement
– 165m length
– 25m beam
– max speed: 20 knots
– range: 6000 nautical miles (can remain 60 days at sea)
– airwing: 4-6 x helicopters (Ka-27, Ka-52K)
– 4 x landing craft pr.11770 Serna or 2 x pr.12061 Murena hovercraft
– can transport up to 60 vehicles
– Pantsir-M airdefence system
Seems a different hull (more LPD than LHD)
For either ship, it has LST-style bow doors…. Do they intend to beach a 14k or 24k vessel in a combat zone? Or just in unopposed settings? Beaching capability places certain demands on hullform and draft.
I’m glad you asked that! Suggests that the received wisdom that the RN needs loads of oceanic PVs might be wrong. Maybe all those anti drug and anti pray tasking for frigates are actually appropriate tastings for frigates?
As yet there are only 3 NSC in service (of 8 planned). Even these cost close to $700million apiece (i.e. about the price of a French navy FREMM)!!
What are the 4,600 t frigate-like National Security Cutters doing?
Good bit of deck area…
