Several lovely images of the new INS Vikrant now undocked and set to be fitted. She will be ready for service in 2 years.
Nice. DOn’t like her sern aspect much, but other wise…nice.
The Republic of Korea to buy 3 Aegis Shipboard Combat Systems.
3 more KD3 destroyers?
For me the line is drawn between Japan and Italy!. The differences between Hyuga and Guiseppe Garibaldi that make one (properly) a CLH and the other a CVS despite outwardly comparable hull sizes and sensor/weapons fit. Perhaps this is another thread though to be debated at another time?!
Eh…?

Thought they were in bed with Damen yards….
Thats the new Admiral Gorshkov alongside after his sea trials.
Lets take her for a spin 😉
Yes, it swivels, & has done on the Sea King AEW since 1982

I know. For a sec I thought the dome folds up against the fuselage, leaving it pointing sideways. But you are saying it rotates and leaves the (deflated) dome pointing backwards.

Using the stores pylon, how does this work with landing? Does the dome swivel?
Project 956 actually has six Shtil directors.

The ROF even for single arm Shtil is pretty decent. However VLS is very important on the Grigorovich IMO because the only other close in defense is the AK-630….against incoming missiles the rapid fire ability of the VLS might be critical.
From a VLU, each missile start can be carried out every 1-2 seconds, instead of 12 seconds for the single-beam oblique launcher .
The system comes with 1-2-3-4 launchers (each 24 missiles) and 2-4-6-8-10-12 firings channels (front dome radars). Each launcher fires 1x per 12 seconds (so 4 launchers means a total rof 1missiles per 3 seconds. )

Again?!
In July 2013, Defence Minister A. K. Antony announced that Vikrant would be launched on 12 August at the Cochin Shipyard.
The ship was launched by his wife, Elizabeth Antony, on 12 August 2013.
Extensive sea trials are expected to begin in 2016 and the ship will be inducted into the navy by late 2018.
The true design has been leaked @ Balancers:

Right. While the Russians are already building 2 frigate types (with the watered down 22356 as possible 3rd).
Lower cost due to Chinese mass production would be off-set by cost of shoehorning in Russians systems. Also, absent a comparable domestic diesel, it would make Russia dependent on inported Chinese diesels. The only other reason I could think of would be yard availability (i.e. faster delivery)
Neighbours: Germany (Typhoon, Tornado IDS/ECR), Austria (Typhoon), Italy (Typhoon, Tornado IDS/ECR), France (Rafale, Mirage 2000)
Switzerland: F-18C/D, F-5 Tiger II
If Switzerland is seeking to just replace its ‘b’ fighter, the Tiger II, then a light fighter like Gripen NG would do fine. If it is seeking new ‘main plane’, well, look at the neighbours.
The Swiss chose the F-5 because it was simpler to maintain than the F-16….
Look up CarterCopters CC-221. The proof of concept PAV seems to fly pretty well. Interesting to see if it scales up. Perfect fit for the ESTOL support requirement.
Sorry. 😀
Meiringen is probably most famous for the caverns built into the mountains that house the base fighter aircraft. They were built back in 1952 for the De Havilland Vampire jet aircraft which at the time formed the backbone of the Swiss Air Force. From June 1979 the Northrop F-5E/F’s took up residence and are still to be found here to this day serving with Fleigerstaffel 8 along with the newer FA-18C/D Hornets from Fighter Squadron 11.
