I do not think so. According to some economists, Chinese economy took over America’s in 2010, based on PPP – see http://www.iie.com/realtime/?p=1935#_ftn2

I think China can afford a second 5th gen.

Purchasing power parity is not valid for international comparisons, only nominal numbers. When comparing you need to be using the same units: grams to grams, bananas to bananas, dollars to dollars.

The notion that the US will do anything even remotely close to “bringing China down to its knees” is as laughable as the reverse of that.

The US has no interest in doing such a thing, as the social chaos that may result would be dangerous and possibly destabilizing for the world. The US has actively encouraged economic growth in China in part because of the stability and moderation that it brings.

The US needs to correct the terms of trade with China and protect its interests in the Pacific.

Spoken like a True Democrat……..Sorry, Taxing more and growing Government ever larger is hardly a recipe for success.

Which, was flatly rejected by the American Public in the recent Elections.

    Tried and True.

The only thing demonstrated by McCain’s choice of a running mate, by the “debate” over healthcare reform, and the elections for the House of Representatives was the rise of the idiocracy.

The political media, especially Fox News, and their right-wing political friends continue to demonstrate a horrible lack of knowledge of world affairs, history, economics, trade policy, and how the national budget shapes wealth and income distribution. Hence, Sarah Palin declaring North Korea to be an ally of the USA.

The right-wingers will take the country no where with this kind of silliness:

…BTW The US could tell China if it does’t get North Korea in line. It will export F-22’s to South Korea and Japan. Plus, deploy Tactical Nukes to the Region! That would get China’s Attention! Thought, I doubt Obama has the Balls…..Which, is why he is likely to be a one term President. (thats another story)

Balls are irrelevant. The US is recovering from the imperial overstretch of the Bush period. Bush destroyed the US balance sheet by cutting taxes and increasing spending, and much of that spending was horribly wasteful, such as needlessly invading foreign countries.

Bush marked the height of America’s international arrogance – we don’t need a return to that.

Also, if the next president is a Republican, he or she will be more subservient to Wall Street, which will mean continued globalization, outsourcing, transferring American technology to other countries, and the continuing impoverishment of the American middle class – all of which will weaken American on the global stage.

Seoul, South Korea (CNN) — Hours after North Korea’s deadly artillery attacks Tuesday, South Korea’s president said “enormous retaliation” is needed to stop Pyongyang’s incitement, but international diplomats urgently appealed for restraint.

“The provocation this time can be regarded as an invasion of South Korean territory,” President Lee Myung-bak said at the headquarters of the Joint Chiefs of Staff here, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

The incident — in which two South Korean marines died — is “the first direct artillery attack on South Korean territory since the Korean War ended in an armistice” in 1953, Yonhap reported.

…South Korea’s military responded with more than 80 rounds of artillery and deployed fighter jets, defense officials said.

The NGJ will provide it’s own power just as current pods do on the EA-18G and EA-6.

    From batteries?

Yes, Ukrainian. There was a whole series of pics of that ERAF Flanker, taken in 2007

Thanks, I’ve been trying to verify how many Flankers Eritrea has. Some websites speculate that they have 8 or more, but that’s just based on this one serial number ending in 8.

There seems to only be one Flanker in Eritrean markings known to the outside world.

I haven’t seen this pic posted. The far aircraft has Eritrean markings. Can anyone verify the nationality of the foreground aircraft? Ukraine? Was this taken at a Ukrainian base? Thanks.

Have the Carriers, Amphibs and subs been axed yet?

No. Easiest question of the thread.

IDAS eh? Well, we will have to see who buys it. Just as well that in these littoral days, naval helicopters will tend to have defensive avioinics, flares, chaff etc, I guess.

Surely any submarine that fires a missile gives her location away, whether or not it hits the target?

A rough position, perhaps. However, the under-sea vehicles for missiles including the Exocet maneuver prior to surfacing, so the sub’s exact location will remain hidden.

They may be floating a political balloon about launching from Tabruk, but it won’t be coming from there. No, if I was a betting man I’d be putting my money more like 800 miles to the East by South East. UAE is just as warm to the prospect of neutering Iran as the Saudis, and (again I am guessing here) an air corridor will be open for at least 48 hours. The trouble is they are still upwards of 700 mile round trips even with that relative starting point. Can they put a knock out punch on Iran in such a tiny window frame.

Yes, Tabruk is still quite a distance from Iran. The UAE would be much more convenient. But is the UAE really ready to accept the Iranian retaliation (not that the UAE is defenseless).

How do Israeli aircraft get to the UAE? First, they have to fly over Saudi Arabia.

    Geography, geography, geography!

Indications are that Israel would have permission to overfly Saudi Arabia.

Not to say that Israel can deliver a knockout blow, but they can retard Iran’s progress and try to wait for “regime change,” preferably from within.

I’ve read that the AIP systems result in slightly more noise on subs. Does anyone know if this is true? And is it a significant amount of noise?
